That these draws and performances away from home weren't gutsy, they weren't well earned points; they were all horrific performances where we were very fortunate to escape with a point, or in some cases only a 2 or 3 goal deficit.
EVERY away game under Carlos has been as embarrassing as that. Regardless if the opposition are Manchester United, Southampton, West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday or even Notts County.
Pay him well in May for trying or perhaps successfully keeping us up but I really hope we part company in the Summer. It is clear why Sheffield Wednesday fans loathed him and he certainly isn't going to take us forward over a 38 match season.
I look forward to revisiting old match day threads where I was viciously verbally abused for making these points months earlier to see how the usual lot have changed their minds and agree with me on this topic as quickly as they flipped on a lot of other issues as well. |  |

Have to say- when Carlos came in we were dead and buried, relegation nailed on. The fact that mid way through April, we still have a chance of surviving, must be down to CC. LIke most posters I was pissed off today with the negative display, but is that CC fault. His objective is to keep us up by any means, and if that means 1pt away at wba so be it. But you need to be sure where the fault lies. because for me CC ain't responsible for two poor transfer windows.

If you mean constructing attacks, then yes, we really struggle without Jordan’s spark or Bonys hold up play to call on. He’s playing with a fairly limited deck there. Should improve now Jordan is back, but I wouldn’t expect us to turn into Barcelona going forward.
Defensively, we ride our luck at times, but on the whole they look well drilled. Inviting pressure by not having much of an outlet doesn’t help us. If we didn’t have tactical nous, we’d be getting hammered every week. |

Sadly, Olsson shouldn't be first choice left back next season.
I can stick with Naughton, I think we're ok there in the main, but Olsson has been very ordinary for far loo long now and we should be thinking of bringing someone in and let them fight for the first team slot.

I think Olsen’s form has dipped because he’s had to play nearly every game due to us having no left sided cover. Most other players have had games off because of injury, suspension or squad players coming in for cup games. Also in Sweden’s squad isn’t he, so goes away for Internationals.
I haven’t got the stats to hand, it just seems that way to me.
It’s one of the most physical positions these days bombing up and down the flank.

I actually agree with some of your points, but comparing CC to PC is like cheese to chalk.
PC looked devoid of ideas this season. Certainly very little thoughts of attack during games at home we should have been going at the opposition in.

Serious lack of investment in good back up squad players.
Buying players that for whatever reason don't fit here at all- over £45 million of transfer cash out on loan, possibly with us picking up some of the wage bill. Not forgetting the likes of Tabbafatty, NGog etc
Selling a left back who looked promising when we are desperately short of cover.
Buying an over 50's player who hasn't played properly in over 2 years.

CC’s post match interview is very interesting. It’s clear he didn’t want us to be so passive and deep-lying yesterday. He saw it as a hangover from Spurs/Man U where we’d had to defend for long periods without the ball. And we carried that mentality into this game. I can believe that. We’d also convinced ourselves we were in for a difficult match before kick off. There was no need for that as WBA looked ropey when we eventually pressed them.
Midfield was the problem for me. They didn’t perform at all. Didn’t link with the wing backs, King especially leaving Naughts isolated. Didn’t link with forwards. Static and let their players play between the lines at will. The worse midfield performance I’ve seen from us in a long time. Players weren’t happy at all - lots of arm waving and blame out on that pitch. |  | | |

The squad is not seriously weak, it is absolutely woeful as I have said for at least the last two years.
The club isn't going to see any serious investment from these owners - have a look what they say In the FT today if you are in any doubt. It's all about treading water for the next TV deal. Which again I've been saying since they came in. |

It's easy to go down and come bouncing back up, especially with a lack of investment.
Ask Bolton, Portsmouth, Cardiff, the Sheffield clubs, Leeds, Derby, Forest .... the list goes on
Why anyone sees relegation as the answer I'll never know.
If people want to watch lower league football regularly go watch Cardiff or Newport, it will remind you of how dire it is for the most part.
I don't buy all the " it was great going away with your mates, having a laugh etc".

So i have now read that FT story and my take is a little different.
When they talk about the club becoming self-sustaining it seems clear to me this is a longer term objective.
"“The best plan is to be sustainable, so that, hopefully, in many, many years – we’re owners here but everybody has a finite lifespan – when we’re no longer here, we’ve got a team that’s sustainable." (Kaplan)
To me that is certainly not ruling out recapitalisation, which is good news because the finances are on a deeply unsustainable path in the medium term.
As for the TV money outlook Kaplan is certainly bullish, and maybe he is right in the long term.
But the more I look at this the more medium term optimism is completely misplaced.
On the domestic front, did you see the second tranche of rights was pulled because the reserve was not met?
Not doubt this is because various potential steaming providers like Amazon/Google/(YouTube)/Facebook/failed to show up.
Ooops. That's seriously bad news, and almost certainly means domestic rights will generate lower total revenue for the first time since the deal beginning '04/05 kicked in. Despite myriad new broadcast options continuously being offered. It is classic product life-cycle maturity.
And as I read it, much of the optimism regarding foreign rights was based on excitement about the supposed entry of the aforementioned streamers who failed to show up a the last UK auction.
For each of the last two 3year frame agreements growth in domestic rights revenue has outpaced growth in foreign rights by an average of 40%.
Assuming a continuation of that pattern and the continued absence of those streamers the outlook for foreign rights is objectively nowhere near as bullish as has been widely touted.
I'd be very interested to know when exactly those Kaplan comments were made; that's certainly relevant to his propensity to bullshit as the deterioration in the fundamentals for TV rights revenue has only become apparent in the last few months. |  |

The Premier League has booted a decision on unsold TV rights packages into next month, as it faces being forced to accept a “cut-price deal” for the remaining 40 games.
Sky and BT Sport snapped up five of seven packages on offer for a total of £4.5bn in mid-February. But the remaining two sets of games have remained on the bench for three weeks.
Amid growing concern the world’s most popular sporting competition is struggling to find a buyer, well-placed sources today told City A.M. an announcement will likely not be made until next month.
Earlier this week it was reported bidders could have to wait until the summer for the Premier League to make a decision.
Media experts said packages F and G — which comprise 40 midweek and bank holiday matches — are unlikely to fetch £600m. This means despite more games being on offer, the Premier League will net lower proceeds for the 2019-22 seasons than the £5.1bn realised for the 2015-18 campaigns.
“I think the Premier League will have to do some kind of cut-price deal with someone to get the rights away,” said Mirabaud Securities analyst Neil Campling.
And after completing the rights auction within days last time around, the Premier League’s delay on the final two packages speaks volumes, he added.
This tells you [it has] an unofficial reserve price that basically hasn’t been met. It is struggling to sell them.
CCS Insights vice president Paolo Pescatore said: "It is quite unprecedented that the crown jewels of the UK TV sports market have been left unsold."
“Backfired”
Premier League officials divided up games for the latest three-year TV deal in hope of enticing new entrants such as tech giants Amazon, Facebook, Google and Twitter.
After winning four of the five packages last month, auction rules dictate Sky can only pick up one more package. BT, meanwhile, is less motivated to overpay for top-tier English TV rights after recently agreeing a deal to spearhead the UEFA Champions League coverage.
“The strategy to attract new bidders has clearly backfired,” said Pescatore.
Liberum media analyst Ian Whittaker said he expected Amazon to pick up one of the sets of games.
Campling added:
You may get some interest from Amazon. But Amazon will not be held hostage. Amazon does not overpay for assets, in fact, they do the opposite.
The Premier League is also expected to award international TV rights in the coming weeks.
“Maybe they are trying to secure other rights in other countries so they can announce other [two remaining UK] deals at the same time to save face,” said Campling.
The Premier League declined to comment.
