The text i quoted was covering WW2.
66,000 Irish citizen volunteers makes a point as to who supported who.

The earlier flag just touched on this very topic.

Yes its always shameful to align to facist types, but lets not make the mistake of saying that the whole of , say, England supported the Nazi ideals because of the king (who did a runner) and Oswald Mosley.

The overall situation is often not as simple as one might like.
I wish i knew more.

The IRA and Mosely in the same gang .....
It's almost comedy, nearly, but remember Mosely etc were fascists as were the Nazis. Its an obvious link.
However, the IRA and the Nazis ?

You have missed my point.

England was not pro Nazi.
Ireland was not pro Nazi.

Irrespective, it is still possible that relatively small numbers were pro Nazi - like the king of England who abdicated, for example.

Just seemed a totally daft idea to subsist on one crop. That was hardly the fault of the British. There were thousands of rich IRISH landowners who grew other crops and preferred to export them instead of feeding their own people. Just goes to prove the Rich Irish were as much to blame as the British.

Stop and think.

The London government let 1 million people starve to death in Ireland.
Not 10 people, not 1000 people - but 1 million men, women, and children.

This was entirely avoidable and the buck stops with the London government.
No ifs, no buts, and no maybe’s.

London lost Ireland, and 1916 was the inevitable outcome.

When O’Duffy issued the call 7,000 donned the Blueshirt, Killy. When Pope Francis lent his voice some 100 to 150,000 exhorted by Popish pulpit stepped forward. Only a fraction of them reached Spain for a variety of reasons that would require an essay to go into. Concerted attempts have been made to erase this from public consciousness, but here’s the thing... History IS.

Ireland may not have been ‘pro-Nazi’ by any reasonable measure but she was most definitely pro-Europe and anti-Communist by every measure. God bless her for that.

‘Educated’ by Ken Loach!? The man’s a Marxian propagandist. He’s so far to the left even a crank like Corbyn considers him extreme, so much so he’s barred him from directing any more Labour broadcasts.

Ken Loach is to historical veracity what Michael Hutchence was to clean living, mate, and that’s being kind to him.

See, that’s the difference between the ‘real’ Irish and plastic Paddies from Greenhill. The real ones love nothing more than the swig and talking about the past.

I've had hell of a swig, unfortunately I know nothing of these events. In the past I have enjoyed uneducated (on my part) arguments against Irish nationalists over which country has been fecked over more by the English.

Ever since my son was... never conceived, because I've never had consensual sex without money involved... I've always kind of looked at you as... a thing, that I could live next to... in accordance with state laws.

Quite a lot of ardent Nazis were Catholics. Catholicism has a long standing history of emnity towards the Jews. Most of the stick devout Catholic Mel Gibson took over "The Passion of the Christ" was based on long standing Catholic dogma.

I thought it was more to do with the fact Mel was constantly getting pissed and running around shouting "F*CKING JEWS!"

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

There were clearly some IRA members who supported Nazi Germany on the basis it would allow the North to break free of the UK-like the Donald Sutherland character in 'The Eagle has Landed" but the RoI also tacitly supported the UK/US in the Battle of the Atlantic and many, as said, volunteered to fight. Suggesting the Irish were pro-Nazi is clearly ridiculous.

As others have discussed the issue of Ireland can be discussed ad nauseum from both sides. Many myths are perpetuated. I had the pleasure to be at a conference in Croke Park recently and was surprised the GAA museum covered the 1916 rising and the original 'Bloody Sunday' in a balanced way. Unlike for example Neil Jordan's portrayal in 'Michael Collins', though as also discussed Kenneth Griffiths' "Hang out your brightest colours" is a superior film about Collins himself.

Let's just hope some progress can be made on the current impasse in Northern Ireland and we don't return to the gun and bomb form either side.
