Trouble seems to follow them around sadly. They seem to suffer from a combination of their own historical reputation and that of English fans in general. Which is a shame, because of all the grounds I've been to, in general, Liverpool fans are the most welcoming and generous I've encountered. |  | | |

They were without doubt the worst fans that I encountered in our 2 years in the 1st division between 81-83.

Was there last season when we beat them and went into a pub afterwards and had no problems with the fans in there. There supporters were pi55ed off with their team, but congratulated us on the win saying we deserved it. Speak as I find. You want shit fans try Palace and Stoke. |  |

I know it sounds like something from the middle ages, but there's a bridge n Rome that's a popular spot for ambushing opposing fans.
On a wider point, I saw there were pictures of a Roma fan carrying a hammer. I really really hope this doesnt set a precedent. It'd be awful if the Liverpool lot started carrying DIY tools. You know, to defend themselves. |  |

Agree! What an horrid place, a case of forget about the peddled media myth about Liverpudlian warmth and humour..... It truly was a hell-hole for away support(ers)..... If some of our supporters think the place is bad now?.... They should have seen it back then!
West Ham had a bad reputation but I found it to be nothing like Liverpool by comparison! Oh and the Met police seemed to be more on our side and nothing like the Scouse cops whom seemed to have it in for us all i.e. even the most decent of 'official supporter travel bus' types were treated like sh#t.
A case of no police escort and make your way to a stadium where the route and surrounding streets had an appalling reputation for ambushes and Stanley blade slashings. I read a few newspaper reports along with accompanying photographs showing a few rival supporters backs that (hundreds of post-surgical stitches) resembled a patchwork quilt.
I utterly detest and have similar contempt for the 'weaponised' Italian cowards that now use similar tactics and do not care whether decent family supporter types are terrorised or attacked. The way they ran like a bunch of girls when faced with a rush of vengeful Scousers just shows the Italian Ultra hooligan mettle, lack of fight, and yellow nature. |  |
