That was my first reaction when I saw the title of the thread. If the club is relegated there will be a major clear out of the playing staff, anyone worth anything and anyone on big wages will be moved on as the club will need to cut its cloth. TV payments will reduce as will commercial revenues and the owners will have to strike a balance between keeping the club competitive with a view to getting back in the PL and taking sufficient monies out to get a return on their investment. With 1 year left on his contract I can potentially see McBurnie and some of the better youngsters being sold on before they can “walk”
Effective use of the parachute payments will be crucial to the clubs long term success as will its recruiting and selection practices. Maybe the Vice Presidents will get their seats back as it may be difficult to sell them to corporate types! | | | |
