I read a recent interview with Potter (with WalesOnline I think) and he said he wants younger players with quality to play in the Championship and potential to play in the Premier League too. I like the long-term approach.

Thank f*ck..imagine if Huw was still 100% in charge of recruitments..

-Failed bids for Adomah..end up signing Jonny Williams
-Tom James from Yeovil even after failing his medical..350 k..even better..Andy Yiadom for free.
-Ash Williams/Mawson swap attempt with Everton..we end up with 35 years old James Collins
-We're pleased to announce the record re-signing of Modou Barrow from Reading for a record fee.

Estimate wage cost of that lot at around £30m pa or down to £20m if we manage to move on Bony, Fernandez, Clucas, Jordan, Naughton and Narsignh?
[Post edited 31 Jul 2018 7:24]

A finger in the air job this, so take it with a pinch of salt, but this would be my guess on wages;

WAGE WATCH

More detailed than my fag packet estimate of £30m. Bony looks eye watering at £7.3m pa - who in their right mind would pay that for a player that's been crocked for best part of 3 years?

Does this reflect any relegation reductions? Who knows with our Board but other clubs seem to trigger 20-30% wage cuts post relegation.

So if we get rid of Clucas, Fernandez, Ayew, Narsignh, Naughton and eventually Bony, that's £16m or so saved and close to the £20m or so likely to be max for the following season with reduced parachutes.

Dineen said in a recent interview that the majority of Swansea players save 2 or 3 have relegation clauses in their contracts (I assumed Bony, Andre don't)

Dineen on Swansea Sound by jack_lord 25 May 2018 13:49
it would be the shortest or most entertaining show that Swansea Sound has ever had if it were a phone it to that plastic.

As for the deduction..I took out about 33% of players wages..sounds reasonable and safe.

Is this 100% accurate? f*ck no..but was it worth sharing? I think yes because it is in the ballpark somehow.

I reckon Bony is on around half that after relegation. Dhanda and Connor both closer to 5k. Don't think Connor has signed a new contract since breaking into the side? Celina too around £15k?

As for relegation clauses, it would be the low earners that don't have one, e.g Fulton, McB, Grimes etc

McBurnie's supposedly on 15k (rising to 30k if we go up). Byers is likely on more, he's not a discount player, had decent leverage end of last season.

I expect Bony to have had a big relegation clause. Andre could have named his price in January, so possibly didn't or it was only small. When Dineen said "most" players had clauses I suspect the ones that didn't were the fringe and youth players already on Championship-sized pay packets.

50% clauses wouldn't have existed. We're talking 20-30% pay cuts most likely.

Doubt Nmecha's on that much at City, but I don't know when he signed his last deal and some of these kids are on crazy cash (like Woodburn & Wilson are on £25k or something at Liverpool).

Speculating about these numbers causes nothing but frustration. Italian clubs have to declare player wages publicly but it's 95% guesswork and rumour over here. Don't trust the numbers you see in FM19, that's for sure.

Chelsea pay Abraham 50K!

I thought the rumour was we were paying him more than he was on at Chelsea (£40k a week here, ~£25k there). He certainly wasn't on that much money before his season in the Championship, though.

Nmecha signed a three year deal in January so he's probably on something obscene for a development player with a few senior minutes to his name.

My estimations are realistic enough..I even included Bony's wages (with no relegation clause) and Narsingh's..Both who might leave..Especially Narsingh..at least on loan with his wages fully covered.

And LOL Kerouac..but Byers is being paid 15k/wk? ffs

Player & weekly wage in 1,000s
van der Hoorn 11
Kyle Naughton 18
Routledge 18
Jordi Amat 18
Erwin Mulder 20
Martin Olsson 22
Tom Carroll 22
Sam Clucas 25
Mawson. 25
Narsingh 25
Jordan Ayew 25
Federico 29
Leroy Fer 29
Nathan Dyer 29
Dyer 32
Wilfried Bony 120

Some sources have ridiculously inflated figures. These are the most commonly quoted and fit with previous figures. So the Bony pay really is a massive figure we need to get off the books Unless he scores 40 goals this season!

FFS though..the rest of the figures are too little..Our playing squad last season was around 50-55 m/year.

From the Teammates video with the Welsh lads they're all pretty certain that Dan James is on the most money among them. More than Connor!

REVISED MY GUESS (FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH)

A finger in the air job this, so take it with a pinch of salt, but this would be my guess on wages;

WAGE WATCH

Goalkeepers = £1.25m per annum
1) Kristoffer Nordfeldt - 15k/wk (£780k/yr)
2) Erwin Mulder - 8k/wk (£415k/yr)
3) Steven Benda - 1k+/wk (£55k/yr)

Defenders = £7.3m per annum
4) Kyle Naughton - £30k/wk (£1.6m/yr)
5) Connor Roberts - £10k/wk (£500k/yr)
6) Martin Olsson - £20k/wk (£1m/yr)
7) Jordi Govea Merlin - £3k/wk (£160k/yr)
8) Jordi Amat - £15k/wk (£780k/yr)
9) Mike Van der Hoorn - £20k/wk (£1m/yr...I'm factoring in a pay rise)
10) Fede Fernandez - £30k/wk (£1.6m/yr)
11) Cian Harries - £2k/wk (£110k/yr)
12) Joe Rodon - £1k/wk (£55k/yr)

Midfield = £7.8m per annum
13) Jay Fulton - £8k/wk (£415k/yr)
14) Sam Clucas - £40k/wk (£2.1m/yr)
15) Leroy Fer - £25k/wk (£1.3m/yr)
16) Tom Carroll - £25k/wk (£1.3m/yr)
17) Bersant Celina - £20k/wk (£1m/yr)
18) Yann Dhanda - £10k/wk (£520k/yr)
19) Matt Grimes - £10k/wk (£520k/yr)
20) George Byers - £15k/wk (£780k/yr)

Wingers = £6.8m per annum
21) Joel Asoro - £20k/wk (£1m/yr)
22) Nathan Dyer - £25k/wk (£1.3m/yr)
23) Barrie McKay - £15k/wk (£780k/yr)
24) Jefferson Montero - £20k/wk (£1m/yr)
25) Luciano Narsingh - £25k/wk (£1.3m/yr)
26) Wayne Routledge - £25k/wk (£1.3m/yr)
27) Daniel James - £1k+/wk (£75k/yr)

Strikers = £9.4m per annum
28) Wilfried Bony - £100k/wk (£5.2m/yr)
29) Oliver McBurnie - £15k/wk (£780k/yr)
30) Lukas Nmecha - £15k/wk (£780k/yr)
31) Jordan Ayew - £40k/wk (£2.1m/yr)

CURRENT TOTAL ANNUAL WAGE BILL FOR THE SQUAD = £32m

I know this won't be accurate, but you've got to start somewhere...if anyone wants to convince me I've got some wrong I will adjust accordingly

3/8/2018 - edited to account for wage reductions

If the following all leave we will slash our wage bill by a further £14m per annum and raise approx. £26m+ for the pot (although we will of course need replacements);
- Kyle Naughton
- Fede Fernandez
- Sam Clucas
- Luciano Narsingh
- Jordan Ayew
&
- Wilfried Bony

No idea. But wasn't our total wage budget in the last accounts about £90m per year? Non-player wages won't be much. I can't imagine Mawson, Fabianski, A. Ayew, Ki, Roque, Bartley, Borja, Leon, Rangel made up another £50-60m/yr between them - that'd be an average of at least £100k per week each, which obviously can't be right.

There's some significant wages missing in all of this.

16-17 accounts total wage bill for the whole club (not just playing staff) was £98.7m.

The 17-18 figure was unlikely to be any lower.

£98m is a staggering amount. Maybe the Trust can steer us in right direction, and five things-
- We paid huge bonuses to players for staying up and extra bonuses based on league position
- Are 'sign-on' loan fees for likes of Sanchez and Tammy and previously Gomis etc included in costs?
- Pay offs to previous managers. We go through 2 a season so maybe big number.
- We had an army of non-playing staff. I seem to remember 400+ being quoted. What they do outside match days in not sure.
- The Board hiked up their salaries and put more Yanks on the payroll?

This lots could add up to £35m-£40m so perhaps will be lower in 18/19 without 'stay-up' bonuses and also reconcile broadly to the player costs summary.

Anyone on the Trust help as it'll all be detailed in the Management Accounts?

Fulton linked with Luton if we get Woods.

Poll: Can Montero do it on a rainy Saturday afternoon?

When you put it like that it’s not so hard to see where the ‘missing’ money is. Obscene really. It would be interesting to get some clarity on those questions.
