I hope the lad makes a quick recovery and is back training in the summer. I know if he isn't then we'll have him until January (probably) but for me he deserves to be playing at a higher level

probably curtails any plans the owners had to: 1/ use the bulk of the sale to pay out shareholders 2/ take a smattering of the residual to let Jenkins buy back someone who used to play for us ..... assuming mawson was what the future finances of the club were based on ....

Don't agree sorry. If we had sold him in January, we'd really have seen what his value was, with the lack of adequate replacement in the team

Nonsense Typical British mentality about Alf build him up to knock him down. Fans will be sorry when he gone & goes on to have a very good career | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yep I agree. It is hard to look like a future England captain when you are playing in a poor, threadbare and imbalanced squad. Hope he recovers soon but i suspect this will mean he will be starting the season with us as I can't believe the Hedge Funders will let him go in the cheap. I also doubt the big boys will come in with a full on bid prior to successful surgery.

This transfer window closes on August 9th so he could well be with us until Christmas at least. IMO fantastic news.

HJ .... We sold Alf to late in the transfer window to be able to get a suitable replacement in, the 35 million will be used in Jan to stave off relegation to league 1 (really has gone to a US hedge fund)

He's got a consecutive appearances record to protect. Such an average player, makes big mistakes every game, we'll be laughing if we get a big English fee for him.
Mawson surgery on 08:54 - May 15 with 2501 views | swan65split | well if it stems form the game where his knee locked, fair doos to him for playing on and trying, I wish him well, as Ive had minor knee surgery in the past . and it does affect your movement.

I wonder if there's a correlation between playing through an injury requiring surgery and not being 100% on top of one's game? Or we could just make stuff up I suppose.

You're damn right, a strong dose of Shelveyitis I'd say. He's even started pointing like the bald halfwit and all: https://goo.gl/images/M9UbLZ

That halfwit would walk in our side mind you, and probably be the best player.

Without a shadow of a doubt. He's been making Newcastle tick this year. He never was a bad player, just an inconsistent one and then let himself and us down badly at the end. But he's streets ahead of any of our CMs.

It's true he has a mistake or two in him but overall he has done a decent enough job for us and has shown he can cut it in the Prem.

Mawson surgery on 10:40 - May 15 with 2236 views | Joe_bradshaw | Quite a few of those raking crossfield passes found their man and effectively switched the point of our attack. Why so many fans want to attack our better players beats me.

What baffled me about the end of Shelvey at Swansea is how a player known throughout his career for his inconstancy became so consistently bad for so long - that period of prolonged poor performances that brought about Gomiss' goal drought and in the end brought down Monk was probably the most consistent period in his career to date.
Mawson surgery on 11:44 - May 15 with 2144 views | A_Fans_Dad | I just can't believe the negativity on here. Name me a defensive player that does not make a mistake. The fact that he has been playing with an injury and obviously in pain says an aweful lot about his committment.
