The answer is no we would not have been imho.
That was the problem though. Many recognised at the start of the season.that, not only were areas of the squad not covered, but the squad was too thin on the ground and we had to rely on us not getting long term injuries.
I think Sanches might have had a part to play as well but for injury. |  |

If we hadn't had such a bad start to the season or maybe if Clement had gone sooner or if we hadn't had so many sh1t officials or if the Southampton game wasn't re-arranged for the last week of the season we could have stayed up. Who knows ?

Had high hopes for Bony, but it just hasn't worked, he was clearly injured coming back to us, if he stays, maybe, just maybe we'll see him bang in a few goals for us, fingers crossed.

Fer, while not exactly perfect, is the only central midfielder we have that differs from the rest. Physically strong and able to carry the ball up the pitch. He was missed.

If Bony hadn't got injured when he did he would have got injured in the next game, or the one after that. Hoping for Bony not getting injured was akin to hoping that Summer won't follow Spring. IF we had bought a fit Bony then yes he would have picked up one or two goals at least, and that may have been enough - was never going to happen and never will, sadly I believe he's done.
The option of Fer would have given us enough to stay up, I would have thought.

Fer's Championship experience is 19 disinterested games for QPR waiting for someone to rescue him (which we did. Plus one for Norwich before QPR took him. I doubt anyone will be looking for a thrice relegated midfielder though so maybe he'll be focused and ready to us.

I think both players were badly missed as they offered something which was missing from a lot of the other players.
I don’t want to go over old ground, but last summers transfer window was poor and the club failed to address gaps that a lot of fans on here had highlighted. Let’s hope the next window is a better one. | | | |

I think we'd have been OK.
Fer would have some terrible games. The thing is, he can also have games where he really drives forward and carries the ball upfield. He's not perfect by any means, but he'd only have needed 2 or 3 performances in the 9 or so we failed to win at the end to have made a difference, IMO. Hope Fer can contribute next season.
I'd like to think Bony might have made a difference to the Southampton game, but you got the feeling his injury was less about bad luck in one game and more his overall shape is poor. I think relying on Bony coming back fit is too big a risk. |  | | |
