Interesting to read that Villa chairman is informing fans that cuts are needed after their final parachute payment was made.

Hopefully the cuts will work against them as they could easily be a force this coming season.

I personally can't wait for next season, a new manager, a new league, new hope of playing football and winning regularly again.

Surely that's why we watch football?

I can't believe that some of you can be so f*cking down all the time, repeating the same miserable things, day after day, thread after thread. Some of you absolutely specialise in those types of threads as well, writing paragraph after paragraph of misery.

Be happy ffs, look forwards.

A World Cup summer first as well.

I'd hate to be as burdened as some of you come across on here.

Same here, some great away games next season.

So when did that happen?

We/you all loved him when he was guiding us up to the the Premier League and the first half of the stay. Did he not think he was Clough during that period? Or are we attributing the successes as being in spite of him?

It's the age old planet swans stuff where anything good was because of other people, and anything bad was because of him.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Absolutely this.

I'm really looking forward to next season. Relegation battles grind you down, and we would have only been delaying the inevitable if we'd stayed up. Looking forward to actually having a chance of being competitive again.

Oh I was a vocal critic of him back in the JA.net days. He was at his most successful when he wasn't interfering, i.e. under Roberto, Brendan and Laudrup. Look at the hambolic recruitment in the Sousa era and everything post Monk. We've spent truckloads of cash and both he and Leadbetter have some serious questions to answer for.

Come on Wayne, you’re better than that. The only one from memory who was against Jenkins then was the Res. Happy for you to prove otherwise mind.

So as I thought, you subscribe to the everything bad = Jenkins, all good = anyone else.

It’s all very churlish mate.

He’s done extremely well for us (along with others) and he’s also made mistakes (not classing the sale as a mistake). But show me a chairman who hasn’t made mistakes and I’ll show you a coherent paragraph from moonie.

Well we will be having another relegation battle if we carry on like this.
Also 'the inevitable ' should be delayed as long as possible. Not thrown away by ego and incompetence.

We are trying to appoint a new manager hopefully early next week.
The owners have said they will look at appointing a new technical director to help with recruitment.
And a complete review on recruitment is to be carried out.
Earlier in this thread someone mentioned that we will cut back to the bone on the Playing staff.
Yet up to now the owners have spent a huge amount of money 70 million last season with a sky high wage to turnover.
Yet still there are plenty on here who go on about asset stripping.
No evidence to back this up whatsoever.
And say what you like about Jenkins but he is no fool.
7 seasons In the PL and 3 promotions are evidence of that.
Criticism is fine but there needs to be some balance.

Really looking forward to next season.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between Neathie. He proved me wrong so I kept my mouth shut (rightly so) and I have (through gritted teeth) given him credit for his work pre-Monk.

You have to admit that he has got himself too involved in recent years,no?

I have always given him credit for what went on prior to MLs sacking. I even said I was wrong in criticising him for Monk''s appointment. I was ultimately proved right and I will always say it was a reckless appointment.
Since then it has been an unmitigated disaster. By any standards it has been poor accompanied by a managerial revolving door.
Jenkins had the formula and blew it with ego and incomptence. I am not even talking about the sale.
I hope he recovers his mojo and learns by his mistakes but there is little evidence so far.

Reading NJ and Wayne's conversation I would add that money has ruination of Jenkins et all . They worked wonders on a very tight budget to get the club up to the Premier League and during our impressive first two seasons but when the realization sets in that there's so much more money swilling around it seems to me that this created a bigger margin for error in some people's minds.

And the last few years transfer windows bears that out. However much money (was it 80 to 100 million pounds?) was put into the hands of a competent manager or DOF would have assembled a squad that could have done a Burnley let alone stayed up.

Wastefulness and sheer laziness regarding scouting and signing (resigning Bony and Ayew are key examples of this) have done for us. The Americans can't be blamed for this but now this mismanagement has dropped us out of the PL someone should have walked (apart from Carvahal). That's something they are now definitely responsible for.

Great post.

I think you have it nailed.

Looking forward then money is still the key.
The club must be near debt free after 3 years in the Championship and the parachute money ends.
If not, the club could go under.

Do the Americans and big nose have the understanding of that new reality...?

Creating a team to get us back up has to be done alongside the massive cost cutting.

Somebody already posted that the existing debt alone will swallow the whole of the first year parachute payment.

I have a question about FA & TV payments.
I assume that we earned payments in the Premier during the last season, are parachute payments in lieu of those or do we get that payment and then the parachute payments?

Nothing wrong with being positive but the reality of our situation is more alarming than many suspect, if clubs like Villa and Sunderland struggle with relegation then it's obviously going to be difficult for us too, IMO we won't be spending much money and we will be trying to offload as many high earning players as possible, selling at cut price.

There are some really tough decisions to be made and if we get those wrong then it will be another tough season ahead, throw in a few sulking players who couldn't get a move away because they arn't as good as they thought they were, coupled with some youngsters and who knows what will happen !

Lets go no further than asking why the fook haven't we secured a manager yet ? many other teams are already planning while we don't even have somebody putting in place plannign for this season, already we are on the back foot !

You have got to be the most pathetically profound uber cūnt on this site. Your alarmist, sensation crap literally goes through me.

WTF does one club's bearing have on another you facking freak???

When we went up was our financial footing on a par with anyone else in the league at the time?

Your line earlier about harder to fack it up sums up completely your lack of intelligence. You should pack in the window licking in Norway and pimp your consultancy services to any aspiring Premier league club.

Just think about how thick you actually come across, especially when faced with the mountain of statistics that tell you how facking hard it is in the big league.

When the parachute payments have gone we'll be back where we were 7 or 8 years ago, we'll be back to having one of the weakest budgets in the Championship if we're still in there or better if we're lower down.

As always though there's always a chance no matter what league we're in, but not when we've got vvankers like you bringing us down all the time.

How are you still here anyway, we're down now so you can fack off....

And just before you do why don't you tell us how shit Marco Silva is again
Facking joke.

Villa and Sunderland are far bigger clubs than yours, with far bigger fanbases, stadiums and more professional commercial departments than yours.

Their costs are obviously higher than yours but then again so are their income streams.

If money is thrown around to try to get you back up next season, you could well end up in trouble - I don't see the investment fund doing that.

You'll no doubt sell a fair few players the key is how you replace them - and who is replacing them. Live within your means and stabilise back in the Championship would be the goal long term.

If the Trust had announced that they would be ridiculed. “Look at” “review” meaningless words. Is the review of recruitment the same review of recruitment from a couple of years ago?

We are now shopping for players in different places so feck knows what will happen this window. Maybe we’ll get back to buying hungry players at realistic prices.

Over the last couple of Windows it’s appeared that the players we paid most for have been our worst acquisitions:

A Ayew, Bony, Baston, Clucas, Mesa each of these was £5-10 million overpriced,
