Bristol Rovers Away was on a par with West Ham Away in 1981 in the FA Cup when we were stabbed with knitting needles hidden in their sleeves and golf balls coming at us from all angles !!
Outside the ground you had the usual ‘got the time mate’ designed to ‘out’ you as a Welshman .....I just showed them my watch !! 😂😂

That West Ham game in the cup was scary, in the ground was bad enough , fighting in the Swans end started hour and a half before and continued all through the game, but the Jacks gave as good as they got, mostly youngsters too

I think the cup game was 80 not 81.

West Brom circa ‘84. He munched the banana to cheers from the North Bank. By the looks of him now mind he has eaten everything that crossed his path since!

Yep that's the one
Next question Brynmill Jack?

If it was West Brom, then it was in 1987 in the FA Cup

Happened right in front of me

My memory is shite but did the Bradford fire or Hillsborough happen the same day as that game ?

Yes it was same season as Palace where we played them 3 times.
The third game at Ninian Park.
Played Reading in the next round and they had a keeper called Death.
He looked like Death warmed up as well

Poll: Would you like Cooper to stay or go (regardless of compensation situation)

I did all three games with Palace, the one at Ninian park wasn't nice, I saw that Palace fan who did the stabbing get arrested

It wasn’t nice.

Well we lost 2-0.

Fans being kept in after the game, but a certain gentleman in a wheelchair was allowed through a side gate and along the front of the stand. We just said we were with him and followed, so coming out from the stand into the car park we just walked through the Rovers fans at the top of the car park and back to the car no problem

See you do have your uses Darran

Garth Crooks played for West Brom 1985/86 First Division

1986/87 2nd Division.

We were long gone from those divisions

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

Ok mun FA cup 3rd round 1987 and we beat them 3-2
Front of the NB someone threw a banana on the pitch he opened it took a chunk and threw it back into the crowd.
But my point still stands there was still plenty of racial abuse well into the late 1980's

The same happened when he played for Stoke in the league cup 1979 I think.

Probably the year we got promoted. West Ham away we tore anyone that asked the time to pieces a few streets away outside. It was hobnail boots donkey jackets studded gloves and knitting needles. Travelled back with smashed windows after the game.

The full coach we had going up was half empty coming back.

I was at Wimbledon away on the Bradford fire day-another relegation season for us, stayed with a mate in the big city. Absolutely plastered going back to his local, soon sobered up when we saw the news in the Pub. No matter what team you supported, it was a sad day for all us older boys brought up on the terraces.
