What top performers play to 3,500?
This underlines my comments about the Tidal Lagoon - no imagination or ambition.
An indoor 12- 15,000 arena would have opened up the world of high quality International events. Instead we'll end up with songs from the shows in direct competition with the Millennium Centre.
The Motorpoint in Cardiff holds just 5,000 so a larger events stadium could have cleaned up.

It's not all about the 'mega acts'. Cardiff and Swansea miss out on a lot of tours to Bristol as we do not have that tidy mid sized venue. St Davids Hall is chocka block with ballet, old farts and tributes, the Uni has a strict entertainment budget, Clwb Ifor Bach is too small as is The Moon Club and Globe. Ditto the tiny venues in Swansea.

A 3,500 seater will bring in some very good bands I hope.

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

I just read the article.
Construction and n earnest to start around Christmas if all goes well.
Why do they keep quoting in the article the the word ‘digital’. Annoying and meaningless.
Question. Does the new arena replace the Grand Theatre? The Grand is a bit run down and the comedians and tributes will go to the new arena presumably.

I hope the latter part of your post does not come to light. Tributes do my fecking head in. Write your own fecking songs you lazy untalented bastards,

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

To be fair, plenty of big bands play academy sized venues. It's also well known that the Swansea gig-going public are particularly fickle, and tight with what their willing to splash out on.

3,500 is in all honesty the perfect size for Swansea. There's loads of acts that go on tour at the moment that aren't big enough for the Motorpoint, but too big/not suitable for St. David's Hall. You could also curtain off certain sections of the venue if needs be to make it more intimate if needed.

There's also plenty of bands that choose smaller coastal venues for warm-up gigs before tours (Blackpool Winter Gardens and Plymouth Pavillions instantly spring to mind with similar capacities, as well as Venue Cymru in Llandudno)

But aye, some people will moan about anything...

Bang on,
Top acts love do a warm-up gig at a smaller venue, Marillion played at Penyrheol Leisure Centre. It was on the very same night they appeared live on TOTP 16/06/1983, they flew down to catch up with the road crew to perform latter that night.

Bastads.

We need more of these things here in Cardiff.
