I must be the only one who's just a little nervous about him,I really really hope he comes off ,but I've got this horrible nagging doubt 🤔I just can't look at the Swedish leauge with any confidence I mean it's Welsh league stuff, or am I wide of the mark .it's a shot in the dark

Doubt any Welsh Prem sides would beat Arsenal, or make it to the knockout stages of the Europa League tbh

Your not the only one but dont agree with the comparison with the Welsh League.

I still sense OGS with Cardiff. A few people in work agree with me.

I'm pinning some hope that each new manager we've had last few years there has been an immediate response in terms of positive results ( bobbly aside)... if we can continue that then it'll be a good start/ bitta positivity all round.
Or my asking too much ?

We don't want experienced 'merry-go-round' managers, we don't want inexperienced 'taking-a-punt' managers. Not sure we know what we want.

Potter is ours now, so let's give him 100% backing. Manager's in place, fans are in place, now it's over to the owners and players.

No your not on your own, it's got a touch of the Ole Gunners about it, without the playing career in the Premier League, but he's here now so fingers crossed and let's give him a chance.

Nope, I am too. I posted this yesterday:

"Another gamble when we can’t really afford to lose (window of opportunity wrt parachute payments). Let’s hope it pays off - he seems to have what it takes, so let’s hope he has and we can all start enjoying the footie a bit more."

I'm not against his appointment, but it's another classic Huw high-risk/potentially high reward one.

I'm apprehensive, but of course he's got my full support. Yet he's he's got it all to prove (as opposed to Colin the W@nker up the road, for example, who you just knew would do well even though I'd rather watch paint dry than the rubbish his teams serve up).

You haven't seen my posts then, I have talking about the Swans taking a manager from a long way down the food chain, I will support him until I have reason not too.
A small team in Sweden coming up from the lower divisions in Sweden with Potter winning a cup getting into the Europa League and then getting a move on the back of that and going to a top Championship outfit...………..hmm...…..that is a big jump, he has potential and lets hope it will be a huge success but its high risk and nobody can know if his appointment will be a success, lots of unknowns.

The first job is replacing and rebuilding the team. Our recruitment is what got us relegated so I expect most are going to be concerned with our transfer dealings.

After that comes creating a team and tactics. New tactics and a new squad could take time to gel. This appointment isn’t a fire fighter, so needs backing and time.

I’m sorry, the Swedish League is miles ahead of the Welsh League. They regularly have teams qualify for the Europa League and even Champions League occasionally.

The best the Welsh league has produced is Barry Town beating Porto 3-1 at home (after loosing the 1st leg 8-0)

I think the only similarity is that neither of the international teams have any players from their respective leagues.

If Ostersund were already in the Allsvenskan when Potter took over and his record matched what he he done in the top flight there, then I'd partially agree and be a bit more apprehensive about him.

However, you have to look at his time there as a whole. Taking a team from the 4th tier to the 1st (while winning a domestic trophy and qualifying for Europe) is no mean feat in any league. Yes, the quality of opposition is poorer, but so is his own resource and what he has to work with.

He has all the tools to succeed as a manager. Not necessarily here because, let's face it, we're a mess at the moment, but I am confident that he's the right kind of character to help us rebuild. Depends how much time and patience is expended to him by the board and, most importantly, the fans.

I'd happily take Potter over a Bruce or Allardyce or Redknapp any day.

But the nagging doubt is that we have huw in charge of the purse and the yanks potentially asset stripping us

We will know how its likely to pan out in the 1st week in august

I am a little aprehensive but he's got a tremendous assistant in Billy Reid. Martinez' tenure here wouldn't have been half as successful without Graeme Jones so there are plenty of grounds for optimism.

Exactly, I think how well we do next season will largely depend on how much Huw stays clear of anything to do with the team. He's still a cancer that needs removing.

""Although I cannot promise or predict the future, I can guarantee one thing - the current board of directors will always fight, as we have done over the last 12 years, to work together as one with the Supporters Trust to make 100% sure that Swansea City football club remains the number one priority in all our thoughts and in every decision we make."

It seems impressive, did he have a big budget or more backing than the other clubs, that's usually the case with teams flying up the leagues, he certainly won't get that here!

I have to say I don't know much about him other than what I've read very recently, it's one hell of a jump, and a fairly specialised Management job, Hughton, and Dyche have shown whats possible, but neither of them needed a complete rebuild and kept their players, this will be a tougher job, and he has less experience.

let's see what he has done with recruitment by the start of the season and take it from there!

Let me just summarise to you how little his recourses were at Ostersunds.

In 7 seasons..The biggest transfer fee his club paid for a signing was 500.000 kronas (which equals around 50k in pounds) for Saman Ghoddos.

The club never had any funding. Therefore he had to rely on those who are unwanted by their clubs or free agents and scouting street kids. All who would accept to play for minimal salaries (Ostersunds highest earner is being paid around 50k/year or what Bony earns in a 3 days for example)

He got all those misfits and shaped them into decent players who can operate as a unit.

Our recourses, small that they are especially now in the Championship, Are far bigger than anything Potter even dreamed of in Sweden.

Now surely, The competition in England is harder than it is in Sweden. But here he won't have to build up from scratch like how he did with the Swedes. He already has an alright squad that can seriously compete at a Championship level if managed well (with new signings needed of course)

To the op what were your thoughts when Martinez with absolutely zero managerial experience was appointed? Or Brendan who had been a failure previously?
At least this guy has some experience of building a team and beating Arsenal....Whoever we take on is a risk but Potter does seem to have some credence and a good no2.
