I was unaware of this 2013 musical opus by Sting until fairly recently. First saw it on U Tube, with Sting and various supporting artists like Jimmy Nail performing the songs live on Broadway.
It's his homage to the shipbuilding working class of his hometown, Newcastle.
I've now bought the Super Deluxe edition of the Last Ship cd with all the songs.
Watch it on U Tube, listen to it. Its an emotional tour de force, a work of understated musical genius.
And the only life we've known is in the shipyard....
It has a lot of resonance with this boy from Port Talbot.
And the only life we've known is in the steelworks.........
