This is a genuine post not a wind up to get the usual suspects in a never ending cycle of who's right and wrong. I've been doing my family history over the last few months as aside from my parents and 1 grandparent I had no real idea where they all came from. It turns out 3 of my 4 grandparents were born in England. Bit of a surprise to be completely honest. So is it where you are born or the roots of your blood as it were. Legally it's where you're born I know but deep down , I'm not so sure. C'mon Ingerlund lol.
In all seriousness family history is fascinating , I'm back to 1781 on one side and 1848 on the other. Mind boggling and addictive. Anyone else had a go at their ancestry.

I've been doing my family history and like you 3 out of 4 grandparents were born in England.

7 out of 8 great grandparents were born in England and even further back there's a Spanish grandmother x4

As you say it's really fascinating, and I'm stuck in the early 1600's at the mo 😂

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

No it isnt. That isn't the question though. If a dog was born in England is the question.

It should be able to identify as a horse if it wants to you transpeciesaphobe.

Species and nationality are not the same thing.

If a dog was born in a stable in England then there are grounds to call it an English dog. If a Horse was born in a French pig sty there is grounds to call it a French horse. It’s a geographical question not an architectural one.

It would have a far greater impact if you said “so if your family were on holiday in China and your mother gave birth to you, would you consider yourself Chinese?”.

I think it's what you feel deep down that matters. I have both English and Scottish blood (as well as Welsh) going back far enough but I was born in Wales, have always lived in Wales. and couldn't feel more Welsh.

I know a family in which the two sons have a Welsh mother and an English father. One son represents Wales at sport and the other represents England. They were both born and live in England but the one has always felt Welsh from the mother's side of the family from a very young age.

Depends on the circumstances.
A rugby player can be Welsh if they lived here a few years. Also, to recognise the fact we (well some of us) no longer remain in our hovels for generation after generation.
As children of recent immigrant find out being born in a country is no guarantee of being a resident.
Many Palestinians are stateless or 'refugee of Palestine three generations on from leaving.
To some you are not from a country if you are the wrong colour, surname, religion or anything else they can think of to bar you from their gang.
Whatever the individual thinks, it is the state that decides what you are.
I consider myself Welsh and a Citizen of Europe.
Yet next year I am likely to be reminded Wales doesn't exist and I am no longer a citizen but a subject of Queen and historic concept.

Nationality is a blood construct conferred by ancestry not geographical happenstance of birth or paperwork.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Try moving to the Carolinas for eighteen months then telling everybody you ‘feel’ Cherokee. They’ll look at you as if you’re simple...
