Michael Sheen, candour and Brexit explained... 16:15 - Jul 9 with 1923 viewsLohengrin

Take the time to listen to this. It’s why West Glamorgan voted Leave in a nutshell. It’s exactly the honest understanding of motive that the political class are incapable of grasping.

The concerns he talks about, the anger, is real and it’s mounting.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

I'll look forward to that when I get home.

I don't share either of their Politics but they are knowledgeable people indeed.

Incredibly knowledgable and genuine and I'm sure he's right.
But the take back control part was a little naive. These are communities which also have a large number of people with a distain for the Welsh Government which offers a degree of control not available were the Welsh Office back in control.
Possibly people equate high employment, good jobs and heavy industry with a period of pre-Welsh Government & even pre-EU. But the Assembly and EU didn't reduce the communities and the employment ... that was in the main Thatcher and the Tories.
What UKIP did, with the BBC and our xenophobic press was sell a myth. Because Scotland and NI have far more independent (and distant from England) media hubs their voters are not as controlled by the likes of Murdoch and are much more independent.
Because of our proximity to industrial, political and media England we are far more dependent and afraid of sex determination.

He gave an interview in the last couple of weeks about the NHS and it was incredibly moving stuff. If I can remember where and when I heard it I'll try and dig it out. Might have been the Today Programme, might not have been if that's any help

Owen Jones is an absolute plonker but there are some good interviews on his channel. The Frankie Boyle one is very interesting. He’s a very thoughtful bloke when he isn’t making jokes about disabled children raping their own mother.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

I’d bookmark this thread. Loh not only promoting a video that talks about social cooperatives, but also one hosted by Owen Jones. Unleashing his inner commie!

Powerful as usual from Sheen, but nothing new there. We knew some people (the least advantaged?) voted as a protest vote against the system rather than anything to do with the EU. And we knew that 2 years ago. Nothing has changed since. If anything it’s got worse, with the ‘system’ (Hard Brexiters in this case) telling the public one thing whilst setting up the EU branches of their companies so they can cash in off this fiasco. The ‘heroes’ of the poor exploiting their worshippers for their own private gain. Elitism rolls on.

The entertainment industry the most hypocritical of all.

Millionaires pining about the poor, under privileged feckers who pay gross amounts to watch them ply their trade for millions per film.

Pass me sick bag

When Mike and the rest of the millionaire movie stars start working for the average national wage then I ll listen up. Id rather the likes of Tony Hopkins who reads his script, learns his lines ,turns up then goes home to Beverley Hills to luxuriate in a way few of us can.

Owen Jones ? Just fook off, another who d pisse on the poor if there wasn't a living in it for him.

I'm on the fence here

Some crossover with this message perhaps?

Unfortunately the regressive left cannot stomach the idea of patriotic working-class people and place-based values.

Spot on.

The Labour Party have left them and don't want them (truth be told...they certainly do nothing to court them and actively promote policies that drive them away).

The Labour Party is for middle-class, hypocritical, tossers who need to wrap themselves in it's "principles" to assuage the guilt they feel for how they actually conduct their selfish, greedy, arrogant, narcissistic lives.

K.
Because we are riddled with the class curse, Labour is seen as representing " ordinary people" the single most insulting word in the dictionary, worse than the N word ,even the P word. It's a party that stars ,grotesquely paid, like Sheen can hang on to extolling the virtues of everything that they no longer have any part in . It would be madness for anyone in the public gaze to be seen supporting the Tories .

The more left you are, the better

Did you even listen to what he said? Why are you playing the man not the ball?

It may seem alien to you but someone may actually care about their hometown after they leave, despite how many figures they have on some computer screen. And does having a certain amount on said screen preclude someone from commenting on social issues?

If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--forever.

Look in the mirror before you post a riposte like that

Concern? It's like that The likes of Bono show when they are bleeding and pleading whilst ensuring their net worth is well secured

Sheen,if that concerned, should ,as a socialist share his wealth with the many poor, deprived in port talbot.

At least Rob Bridon doesn't come up with this as did another port talbot boy, Richie Jenkins who made it big ,loved Wales ,but didn't do much of value with his wealth outside Elizabeth .

Now,playing the man? A tap in ,now enjoy your afternoon

Ha! hardly. I’ve banged the Syndicalist drum so hard and often on here over the years I’ve had it reskinned three times.

I do have a lot of time for Michael Sheen too. It’s not an act when he’s commenting on social and political issues, what you’re seeing and hearing is the man unvarnished. He’s exactly the same in private without the cameras rolling. I know this because I’m aware of quite a few things he’s done without fanfare or recognition. He’s a good man.

No difference. My point though was that Brexit doesn’t address the issue of people feeling disenfranchised and ignored by the ruling classes. If anything it *may* make things worse.
