Lisa You’re a North London girl , whats the Jazz Cafe like?

Poll: Should the Americans invest and dilute the Trust’s shareholding?

I'm there nearly every year, and was last Monday funnily enough.

They've had a refurbishment so it's much nicer than it was...nice intimate place to watch a gig. It was very busy and hot in there last Monday though, a lot of people wearing shorts.

I saw Roy Ayers for anyone interested.

Poll: Should fireworks be restricted to professional shows only?

Not much jazz there these days.

My mate was the original owner - lost a packet...

Depends what you want - it was always a good venue but there’s plenty of jazz in London if you look. Ronnie’s is usually a safe bet, Bull’s Head is worth checking too.

Indeed. More people interested in having a pîss up than actually watching the band these days too it seems.
Haven't been to Ronnie Scott's for about 10 years unfortunately.

That’s like saying, “I don’t like football, I blame Rochdale and Workington. There are many different styles of jazz just like different styles of football. You may not like jazz but have you listened to Steely Dan, Cream I could go on. These are jazz influenced musicians playing their own styles. The art of improvising in music is jazz related. Music isn’t just writing and playing the dots on the page exactly as it’s written. It’s about expression, just like everyone wants to watch the Swans express themselves with the “Swansea Way” again. There are many different styles, not just middle of the road “popular pieces “ played as you’ve quoted. I’m not trying to tell you what you should like, but to try not to dismiss something with just a few odd examples.
Back to OP if you’re looking for something in August try Ronnie’s

Thanks.
No I don't like jazz.

Ive got more or less everything Steely Dan did. I d regard it as funk ,pretty genius and hard to categorise .

By jazz I'm talking about hard core multi instrumental stuff . To me ,it's simply a massive jam . And that s fine .

Nope, don't like Jazz

Me mum loved Acker Bilk though

Johnny hates it too.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Someone asked me once ...

"Have you ever seen Tommy Smith and Kenny Ball in the same room" ...??

Tommy was a regular at the 100 Club back in the day. He’d sit quietly in a corner, tapping his foot and nodding his head sagely. One port and lemon would last him all night - “training tomorrow” he’d reply with a grin and a shake of the head to offers of another drink.

Actually, come to think of it, it might have been someone who just looked a bit like him.

I’m going to see a hiphop night with some Tottenham boys, not jazz.

I prefer the Jizz café in Soho, tbh...although, don't have the frothy cappuccino.

Many men, wish death upon me, Blood in my eye dog and I can't see, I'm trying to be what I'm destined to be, And N-words trying to take my life away
