It’s as simple as this. England aren’t great, they are decent but not a great side, arguably not even a good side. However, they are the best of the home nations and that’s a sad reflection on the situation. Did they have a favourable draw, yes. Did they beat only pub teams, no. Did they lose against the only truly very good sides they faced, yes. Did their media and a few bandwagonwers make the whole thing dislikable, yes. Is that the fault of the England squad and 95% of English people, no. Have a few people on both sides here made fools of themselves, yes. 20 shots on target according to the official FIFA stats, and that will include set pieces (but not pen shootout). No idea where this 0.9 spg figure comes from - made up by little Welshlanders I suspect. Having hardly any shots on goal when your bottom of the league has got nothing to do with having a medium amounts of shots on goal on the way to reaching the semi final of a major tournament.

The England supporters on here are in complete denial. They did OK against poor teams and yet again were found wanting as against decent teams. Croatia did them a favour as France or lost teams on that side of the draw would have hammered them.
