By he same token why have another election? The people already voted in 2017 for a Conservative Government. If there is another vote it should be whether we continue with the same Government or have no Government.

Because we have general elections every 4 or 5 years.
Or are you suggesting we have constant referendums on eu membership ?
Even the PM at the time of the 2016 referendum said and I quote “this is a once in a generation decision”.

A very stupid comment to make. What do I care what the Tory party was saying at the time? The whole idea of a referendum was to try get Dai Cam out of a hole.

Cameron and Osborn lied,
Gove, Johnson, Fox, Davis all lied.

What else do they have in common?

This has never been about Europe, it's always been about Tory infighting. It still is.

Cameron bet the farm on Scottish independence and got lucky, and then let it ride on the EU to try and shut up Ukip and the little Englanders like redwood, Bill cash and JRM

Danny Dyer nailed it.

And who cares. Parliament voted 6 to 1 to hold a referendum and hand the decision over membership to the people.

I didn’t hear the Labour leadership opposing the referendum at the time.

We have General lection every 5 years so we can decide who leads us, the referendum was supposedly a once in a generation thing. I do agree with Clasie on this, if remain had won the noisy leavers would still be fighting the fight though I am more fatalistic about it. To be honest, in respect of democracy, if remain had won I would either say nothing or argue that we should shut up and get on with it. All the delay, all the political shenanigans and uncertainty can only make things worse.
I quote your post Longlost because it seems an appropriate time to ask, why indeed have another election? WE end up with the same old rubbish and after all, we don't get to elect the government of the EU. The remainers seem to think an unlelected government is more democratic than the UK system so lets just get rid of Westminster.....and the WAG!!
To be honest, would being a region of Europe rather than a seperate country be that bad? Then maybe we can become the United States of Earth, do away with tariffs, do away with immigration rules, have one tax system, one legal system, one set of rules.......I wonder what the EU would say to being superceded by the "U.S.E"?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

You will always have rich & poor.
You will also have well paid jobs & not so well paid jobs.
You will also have people who work hard and lazy people.

Socialism will never work.

nowhere s perfect, but the Scandinavians seem to have got it more right than most.

Considering many British are descended from Vikings it seems sensible to follow their social and economic model rather than a US one.

its been said the British want Scandinavian levels of public services with American levels of taxation.

Tackle income inequality and we'll all be happier.

But it has worked.

NHS, Pensions, Social Care, Comprehensive education, university education for many, state owned coal, gas, oil, telecoms, water, rail, etc.

Thatcher attacked it all.

If you want to earn more money, go and get yourself better educated or get some training, instead of taxing people who have a bit of get up and go about themselves.

Why do you keep making things up? I’ve not said any of the things you’ve attributed to me. All I’ve suggested is that a second vote when the details of the exit deal are known will allow the all important people the chance to confirm that they still want to leave the EU now that they know what’s on offer. As the big fan of democracy that you’re painting yourself as I’d have thought you’d have jumped at the chance to give the people a second choice, one which would be infinitely more informed on both sides of the debate that the first one was. Why does that apparently scare you so much?

On your point about MPs, scores of them are elected on far less than 50% of the vote in their constituencies. It’s a rubbish system but completely irrelevant to the point at hand.

On the vote in Parliament thing, many legislatures set higher thresholds for certain bigger decisions. For example, in the USA two thirds of both houses of Congress must vote in favour in order to be able to overturn a presidential veto. The same two thirds threshold is required to amend the US Constitution which is exactly what Brexit is doing to the U.K. equivalent. If Congress then provides the necessary two thirds majority, three quarters of the states have to ratify the amendment before it becomes part of the constitution.

Because none of the poor work hard, or long hours, or got training. None of todays youth would love an apprenticeship or a decent future and all of the rich worked hard and deserve their wealth.....how much did the 7th Duke of Westminster inherit, around 9 billion wasn't it. He worked really hard for that. Maybe some rich people don't deserve anything, eh?
Capitalism hasn't worked, socialism hasn't worked, face it......we're hopeless. We were given a paradise to live on and in the name of progress we turned it into a sh/thole. Jeez all people can do is point fingers and accuse others of something, anything that fits their narrow minded perceptions of others.

Anyone got an uninhabited island they don't want?
