They "invested" in the club when they bought the shares. Look the word up in a dictionary.
Spending basically every penny received in player sales whilst in the PL on bringing other players in, no matter how badly, is also investment. Any company can make capital expenditure. It's still investment, even if the money comes from the company rather than the individual shareholders. |  |
