Yeah we regenerated after his sale alright.

Who did we sign again from the money he generated?

Is that a real question?

The money we got from him was invested and recycled in order for us to be able to afford to get Potter, the backroom team, Celina et al. The ones everyone are currently wetting themselves over.

Too bloody right we have regenerated and about time. The Siggy/Llorente anti football era was some of the most depressing performances that have graced our club in years.

Unless you’re suggesting that Ryan Fraser is as good as siggy then this thread is pointless. Siggy probably the only one on that list that takes every corner and frekick as well

Chelsea looking for a more creative spark.

Fraser swap with Hazard on the cards.

Seems fair.

your comment is pointless (and stupid). as good as siggy has been this season fraser has been even better. hands down one of the best players in the league so far. have you looked at the table? bournemouth are bloody 6th and he's been their talisman

Of course what we're playing now is better than when he was last here. Celina's goal against Ipswich was tremendous.

However, it was against Ipswich. It was against opposition players, coaches and tacticians far from the level we were playing when Gylfi was with us. Comparing how we play know to how we played against the likes of Manchester United, Everton and even teams like Burnley is not really a fair comparison.

We’d play even better too in the next league down... perhaps!

But of course your right you cannot compare, or if you you have to consider the environment.

You don't think the football we are playing now is better than what we were serving up before he left?

If so, that's just weird.

Please point out where i said thst, thanks.

And theres me thinking this was a thread about siggy not the youngster plying their trade in the championship, but I'll play anyway.

You don't think calling siggy a one trick pony and thinking Clement was going to play Tika taka when he left is weird ?

So the plan was to sell siggy, get relegated, then sell 16 players, supplement them with youngsters who can pass the ball and play football, that's how we achieve being better ?

Rightio, sounds about right for the swans under the current regime actually .

I think you’ve missed my point. When you consider the fact siggy takes far more set pieces than nearly all those on that list, the list then becomes misleading. Are we really gonna have these threads about the bloke on a weekly basis 2 seasons after he f***ed us off? It’s sad

I remember Siggy fitting in superbly with Brendan Rogers style of football.

Anyway he’s gone he wanted away from the merry go round of new managers and I don’t blame him for it .

Great player for us during our glory years

What stats do you have to back up your completely false claim that Siggy takes "far more set pieces than nearly all those on that list?" First of all, Everton have not won the most corners or free kicks in the Prem this season. Far from it. In fact they're actually in the bottom half when it comes to that. Second, Siggy shares his set piece and corner duties with three other players (Digne, Baines, and Walcott).

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

It just depends on how you define 'better'. Certainly the atmosphere, intent, style, results, enjoyment, etc are all better but as a team we are just clinging onto the coattails of the likes of WBA, Leeds, Middlesbrough and even Sheffield Utd ffs so we're nowhere near being even as good as those Premier League powerhouses of Watford and Bournemouth let alone being able to give any of the big 6 a decent game. Maybe we'll get drawn against a decent Prem side in the FAC 3rd round in January and we'll be able to judge whether or not we are better in the grander scale of things as a football team.

Chances Created in the Premier League. Sigurdsson is currently #1 on 09:16 - Oct 13 by E20Jack

Nobody is downplaying how important he was.

But being important in a system we don’t want to play is the whole point.

Peter Crouch was an important part of the way Stoke played too, that isn’t really a positive though.

He was important in a system that the manager at the time wanted to play. I don't really understand blaming one or two players for a direct system when it's the manager who instructs the team to play like that. Having a set pieces specialist and one of Europe's best 'big men' provides an out for the manager, but that says more about a weak, unimaginative manager than the players - as shown by Clement's final months.

I don't think he's the silky David Silva type he's somewhat built into, but then neither is he a one trick pony. It was clearly the right move to sell him but I think he'd do alright in our current system - it's not as if he's playing with a bunch of cloggers at Everton.

His money was invested into:

Clucas, Ayew, Bony, Mesa and Sanches and Tammy’s loan. The money was wasted completely.

It’s probably one of the thickest things you have said on here and that takes some doing.

Well I don't think he liked you watching him. He refused to play for the club, just as Jordan Ayew did and was rightly slammed for.

Thankfully we got rid and are now regenerating as a club in the Swansea way instead of scrapping around playing some of the worst football I have seen in almost 2 decades.

Having said that - I also remember a time when Mark Gower was the most creative player in Europe and Leon Britton ranked as a better passer than Xavi and Iniesta. Stats eh?

Yes this word 'regenerating ' is one used to cover up the multitudes of fook ups from the club .

Some people think the master plan was to get rid of 16 players, start the season with 1 fit striker and one senior defender, tell the new manager no problem we've got lots of talented youngsters to fill the gaps, so talented in fact that they wouldn't even risk giving some a contract extension, and selling siggy was the way to achieve that, after of course being relegated because of that and squandering millions on jokers like clucas who some actually thought at 28yrs of age was the mustard!

This is the reality for some on planet swans !

The actual reality is that we've been shafted as a club by previous owners who sold us to a bunch of yanks who've put not a penny in,but taken plenty out, and who are there to take every penny they can while they hope and pray that they luck into a situation where more assets may become available for sale in January.

And I don't give a fook what anyone says,IMO some people in the trust knew what was going on in an unofficial capacity, swansea is far too small a place not to .

There is no master plan just a hit and hope philosophy, thank God they pulled one out the bag with the appointment of potter.

You need to check your stats pal. Everton are currently third in the table for corners taken. Out of the 49 siggy has taken 36 which is roughly 75% of all corners. He is 3rd in the table himself for corners taken. He is currently 187th in the league for passes made with 172 tied with Alex McCarthy and Yedlin. 60!! Of those passes were crosses into the box from open play which he’s second behind left back Holebas. He creates chances with his balls into the box but a creative number 10 he certainly isn’t.

Said what? They are questions based on your post. YOu have refused to answer which USB somewhat telling.

Why are you telling me about one trick stuff? It’s amazing the amount of people that merge what myself and the Res say. By all means of you want to discuss what I have said, feel free. Limited is what I said he was - and he is.

The plan was forced by Gylfi not wanting to play for us anymore and refusing to train or play. His sale created an opening where we could strengthen the squad to return somewhat to the style we had lost. Signings like Renata Snches certainly showed that, it didn’t work out. Chadli also fell through. We decided to wait until Jan to see what opened up in the market. We had a horrible few months with the likes of Renato not settling and our options were thin come January due to our position, we did what we were forced to do - it nearly worked.

The relegation plan was separate and in no way linked to selling Gylfi. We were going down with or without him just as our abysmal showings the year before with him in the side was dictating. That plan was absolutely to sell what we held in transfer values and introduce the U23 side. Players our owners and managerial staff had a lot more faith in than our own fans.

The amount of people unable (or maybe unwilling) to logically piece together what happened is fascinating I think.

Of course that just means you haven’t been able to understand it.

Which judging from previous conversations we had, it is hardly surprising.

The money we spent directly from his sale provided the recyclable find that allowed us to get the likes if Celina, Potter and his team.

Tell me which bit confuses you and I will go through it step by step.

You don’t think so either then?

I am amazed at the level of people seeing what they want to here. Absolute stone cold sense is shunned for some fantasy which holds another team’s player who refused to play or train for us in a better and false light.

Explain how we played better football then.

Yes absolutely regenerating.

We will keep selling until we are financially stable - something that should absolutely have the support of our fans.

Unfortunately we have picked up a load of “Premier League or nothing” fans along the way and that isn’t always the case now.

And just like that the sound of cold hard reality hits.

Pathetic.

Good post mate. I seem to remember similar stats when he was with us. Very low actual open play passes made. Chance creation high from corners and free kicks. One of the ugliest spells of football I have seen outside league 2, or division 3 as it was back then I think.

fvcking incredible you blame siggy for our poor football. it's not his fault he played under shit managers like monk and bradley and was in some of the worst squads the prem had ever seen. imagine trying to play attractive attacking football with guys like routledge, goalmiss, carroll, and olsson in the starting lineup

and the thing is, we actually played our best football when siggy was in the team. under brendan when he came on loan and lit up the league, scoring 7 times and assisting 5 in 18 games, we were a sensational side. the away game against fulham where we won 3-0 remains one of the best games of football i have ever seen from any team. it was utterly incredible. there's a reason why after that game the press started calling us "swansealona"

Showed signs of the right ideas but signings like Sanches and us not being able to get Chadli scuppered that. It isn't a magic wand where it improves overnight, you need the right players and time for it to be implemented. Now we are seeing the benefits of the likes of Roberts now fitting in seamlessly to that style as he was prepped for it long before.

Where did I blame him for our poor football? I just made the point that it was his existence in our team that rendered our playing style utterly boring and one dimensional and verging on embarrassing.

He is a limited player, that's not his fault. It's like blaming Crouch for being tall, not his fault just the set of circumstances that were there which the team were playing to. Routledge was a key part in our former pleasing style of football.

Siggy didn't ''light up the league''.He played well in a team full of excellent players for half a season. The best football we played by some distance was under Laudrup, but that came at a cost to us, his era eroded Swansea and their ethos, the trade off was short term success and one I selfishly probably would choose again however.
