I currently have a 4 year old HTC One M8 that was paid off about 18 months ago, so just have a sim only contract at £10 a month now. Saw no reason to change it until now, but tempted to keep the sim only going and buy this 8X based on the reviews I'm reading
I just bought a Xiaomi Mi A1 as a cheapie for myself (wife and son took all my cash with their Galaxy S8+ and S9). It is surprisingly good for the money, including an optical 2x zoom on the dual camera.
It looks like the Honor 8X has a slight edge vis-a-vis specs, except perhaps the camera. It is a bit more expensive with a larger screen. The Xiami has a very nice uncluttered version of the Android OS though.

Mi mobile phones by Jackfath8 Aug 2018 17:57 Anyone here own one? Supposed to be very good for relatively little money.

I was asking about these phones a while back. Would you recommend? Where did you purchase it from?

I think mine is pretty good, but I've only had it for about a month and my son borrowed it while his Galaxy got replaced under the insurance policy when he cracked the screen. I like the clean Android One OS, which I think was developed in collaboration with Google, and the camera seems good for the money. The downsides are that the colours are a little pale (and not easy to change) and the low light performance of the camera isn't as good as something like a Galaxy S9. With the latest software update it will fast charge using USB-C (although the original charger doesn't support this).
I bought mine from eGlobal UK (which is actually Hong Kong based), but it came pretty quickly, suggesting that the stock was already in the UK. The price was keen. I bought the S9 from the same source at a big saving from UK prices, but it took longer to come.

I heard there was an issue using them with GiffGaff? Have you any idea of this?

Not aware of that as I use Lebara and my son was using a Virgin Media sim. You may need to look at the spec and check which 4G and 3G frequencies are covered and how they match with the frequencies used by GiffGaff.
I have an Honor 9 which I purchased last December and apart from dropping it and cracking the screen it’s a case of so far so good. I didn’t fancy paying £700 plus for a phone, so I read the reviews and the Honor 9 came up as one of the “best buys” in the mid range, it was also on sale which clinched the deal. I only use my phone to browse on line and to make calls and it works fine, it has loads of extra functions which a techy or a kid would use but I can’t comment on them. In terms of speed etc and functionality, it’s great for what I need.
After 2 weeks I can comfortably say it's the best phone I've ever had. F*ck ridiculously long and expensive contracts, I recommend doing your research and picking up one of the cheap Chinese brands along with a low cost sim only contract. At £220 I've not bothered with insurance either
The only thing about it is it's huge which won't suit everyone

We've just dumped Iphones in favour of the Honor 7S, it seems a better phone, it's cheap, just going to have to see how good it is long term. It has a much better battery life though and 16gb memory but it's expandable. 13mp camera too.
