Teenage Tommies -Bbc4@8pm 19:47 - Oct 31 with 1011 views | dickythorpe | I've had it pointed out to me that there are graves in Morriston Crem of kids who lied about their age so they could enlist. Tragic heroes. [Post edited 31 Oct 2018 21:07]

I don't think there'd be the same response from the young today. Different times indeed.

My dad said that you could join the merchant Navy at 16, my dad's friend was so keen to support the war effort he joined a ship on his 16th birthday. His ship was sunk by a U boat a week later, he survived and swam to the U boat only to be pushed back into the sea.

It was with awe I listened to the first hand accounts from those that were on the front line. A sheer hell. No wonder so many never talked about it.

A brilliant series over 3 nights ... Tomorrow is "The Fight to the End" Alot of the filming is taken from the series ... "Last Voices of World War 1" ... Another truly humbling series. [Post edited 6 Nov 2018 20:20]
