So much for the "best league in the world" using blind, untrained referees every f*cking year and their mistakes just pass by unaccounted for, while relegating teams and stripping tournaments of hard working clubs and players without any culpability. Years back I made the case for having 3 linesmen/women and having one run the middle third, the other two on the opposite side so the ref only has to run a diagonal from one corner to halfway, then to the other corner. Lino's can keep up with play, more of the pitch is covered properly and hopefully there's fewer mistakes. Put VAR in too and it should all be better.
The sad fact is too many officials aren't good enough though. They are inconsistent and in too many cases their interpretation of the rules is at best inconsistent and at worst plain wrong.
Austin can moan al he likes but it would help if so many players weren't so busy trying to con the officials.
Football is badly in need of a citing system like rugby and you should be able to appeal yellow cards. Managers should have 2 challenges per game also (if VAR is in) so if a decision is blatantly wrong they can do something.
Take the Liverpool goal, if the manager could challenge it because the ball ws rolling, problem solved. Though VAR would have upheld the goal anyway. |  |

Even then, If the linesman isn’t totally convinced the player is offside then flag should stay down. Poor officiating all round imo. | | | |
