Matthew Maynard to take temp charge of the team's winter training.

He's also thinking over applying for the permanent job of Head Coach, replacing Robert Croft.

This might be the right appointment and way of going about it.
Maynard may be totally ready for the next stage of his career after a very tough time for him personally.
With no Croft around to distract him , he can see if over the winter he's got the players attention and respect.
We've got nothing to lose! Who in their right mind from overseas would come over to this mess of a squad?

It Is the wrong appointment at the wrong time. They are interviewing the director of cricket next month. He should be put in place first then he can choose the head coach. My major area of concern is that there is an old boys network there that needs braking. Hugh Morris, Matthew Maynard and the Harrison brothers are all employed there and all from the Cardiff/ Gwent area. The old man Harrison was on the committee and friendly with Maynard. During the winter most cricketers are abroad so why appoint now. I was speaking to Eifion Jones years ago they didnt return until March and that is when they started the hard training.
