If the EU is such a wonderful thing why are they afraid to give other countries a referendum on whether to stay or leave.

Nah.

It is more a case that the leading Brexiters have in effect been members of a fanatical cult for 30 years or so, constantly telling every man and his dog how great it would be to leave the EU.

Now their lifelong fantasy is crumbling around them, but the psychological path of least resistance is to drink the Koolaid rather than admit they were wrong.

This thread is for killer questions. That can easily be answered.

They don't like it because it creates instability and uncertainty. But as Britain has demonstrated, they can't stop countries carrying out Leave/Stay referendums.

Which is also the case. There are a few Brexiteers who wish to leave for what are honest reasons whether you agree or not. In most cases it is money and ambition that drove this. As I have said before many honest people have been duped or have had mildly xenophobic/racist (delete as you see appropriate) strings pulled by half-truths to downright lies (350 million for the NHS per week).

1) If/when the EU collapses, would you wanna be a part of it all or watching from a distance?

2) remainers keep arguing that this is not the brexit we voted for. Now they know the EU has every intention of creating a an army and ending our rebate if we remained regardless, do they agree that those are not the terms you voted to remain?

Thanks

All significant political movements have chancers and opportunist hangers on.

But in the case of the Europhobes before all that came Bill Cash, Bernard Jenkin, etc. John Major's original bastards.

Their crime was sentimental foolishness, not corruption.

Do you think we'd be better off if we had joined the Euro Shakes?

Overall no.

But probably would have been a positive over the past 5 years or so, with exchange rates now much more realistic (lower pound), and access to ECB monetary stimulus.

It was a different time, when exchange rates were still widely viewed as a source of national machismo, rather than as today a basis for competitive devaluation.

Yes but by opposing the Euro and the ECB history has generally proved the bastards right. As you just agreed we are generally better off sticking with the pound. Which is what they were arguing for. You bastard.

We should have had a proper debate or even a people’s vote (lol) on Maastricht. Nobody wanted it, most knew it would be a disaster, but Major ploughed on regardless.

No need to pay me.

And no need to read the most viewed thread in PS history if you do not want. I am sure you all know what it's all about.

Think you are mixing up the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) and the Euro.

This geezer ain't even using the Queen's English.. "that's it so boring".

The biggest irony is that somebody so poor at English syntax and grammar is the biggest proponent of the UK leaving the EU. Loved his "properganda" faux pas the other day.

Not university standard let's say.
