We don't need petrol to run cars, but the people who sell us petrol seem to spend a LOT of money on private universities (in the US), think tanks and lobby groups to spread fake anti-environment, anti-establishment, low-tax, messages and get us to vote for the parties that will give these multi-billionaires the freedom to operate as they wish.

If these scenes were occurring around 3000 miles east the US would be gearing up to deliver some seriously explosive democracy right about now. Funny old world.

So when are the Donald and our Theresa going to intervene?

As it stands the combustion engine remains the only viable option for most. Electric cars are the future but they come with their own issues . Very expensive at the moment, lithium relatively rare on earth.
In fairness petrol is actually quite cheap on its own, we don’t think twice about buying a bottle of water in the shop for about 80p a litre, or paying a fiver for a couple of cans of beer. It’s the excessive amount of tax we pay that makes it over twice as expensive as it should be that’s the criminal bit.
What a great post. If we went all electric, the authorities would find a way of taxing us. The consumer will be no better off

Indeed they would. They reduced car tax on lower emission cars to encourage us to buy smaller more efficient cars and when we did, they changed the tax rules and charged us more. If we are going to move across to electric cars, then there needs to be a significant increase in electric charging points etc and generating capacity across the national grid.

There will naturally have to be an increase in generating capacity.Germany tried it using alternative power, but they discovered that the wind didn't blow every day and the sun didn't shine everyday. When demand increased they had to reopen the coal power stations to meet it. As regarding charging points; if you live in a terraced house or flats then you probably won't have access to roadside parking, so where will those cars be able to get their charges from. This has not been properly thought out.

There’s a plan to put charging points in lamp posts to cater for the problem that you’ve quite rightly identified.

That's an illuminating plan and I hope it comes off, but it sounds a bit too ambitious for this country, but let's hope the authorities see the light and don't charge us too much for the service

The national grid struggles when all the middle aged women who watch X factor put the kettle on during the advert break. It’s not going to cope with 40 odd million motorists charging their cars overnight.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Another weekend of uk media blackout about the protests.
Yeah there’s a lot of heavy handed policing going on over there. Videos circulating of a group of heavily armoured burly and tooled up police officers tear gassing a wheelchair bound, disabled yellow vest protester in the face from point blank range.
Another protester already captured and in handcuffs thrown to the ground and beaten by several officers. It’s shocking stuff.

Indeed It’s incredible how this is getting zero coverage.
There’s obviously a media ban in all this over here for some reason
