I imagine you could put all sorts of pre-contracts and wage-contribution clauses in a sale agreement that would incentivise the player to return even if they changed their mind after moving to their temporary club. We don't see any of these 'loan with guaranteed purchase when the window opens' deals fall through and they're the same idea (gaming the system) from the opposite side. Technically Woods is till a Brentford player on loan but in practice he's already Stoke's.
