We need a revised justice and punishment system.
Petty crime E.g. non-violent theft should be dealt with on licence. However, a modern day chain gang should be introduced working in conjunction with local authorities do that they can supplement (not replace) workers such as cleaning graffiti or chewing gum, beach combing, litter collection or sorting at depots. Vocational courses would be a tool to add value to there people who could then truly be self sufficient in our society. Same for drug users, after residential addiction therapy give them a purpose in life. Other countries do this I'm sure with far less re-offending rates than we have. Our current prison system simply trains criminals to be better criminals. Totally counter productive. | |
