Is this the poorest Premier League season? 18:24 - Jan 20 with 2755 viewsdickythorpe

Just looking at the table and it's staggering how poor sides are.
Huddersfield and Fulham are down already I'd say. Our cousins have made life very hard for themselves but it's not over for them yet, as there's a lot of rubbish above them.

It wasn’t that flash last year, but we managed to find a way to get relegated.

We had one less point than th Barcelona Eastern Reds at this point last year didn’t we? But then again, we were bottom at the time.

I remember the Huddersfield fans celebrating when they clinched staying in the Premier league last season, sure it was against us? Anyway, that's all it's done for them is another season of losing. The premier league is rubbish IMO anyway, sky hype the shit out of it, not worth the prices they charge to watch it on tv.. I'm so glad I have iptv, I do enjoy the odd game on sky, but I would be well peed of with the games that were shown today.. 40 quid a month extra or whatever it is, no thanks.

Can't be any worse than last season seeing as Huddersfield stayed up.

It's just the top teams are getting stronger across the board, the top 6 are all on for 70+ points this season.

Yeah but two teams have no chance already of staying up and we're only just half way through Jan.

You can see the gap between clubs, the obvious top 6. Followed by a 10 pts or so gap by the clubs that spend a sh!tload of cash on players and wages like Everton, West Ham, Leicester (Watford being an anomaly), then there is this sizeable gap with the rest like Newcastle, Southampton, Crystal Palace, which are the clubs that don't particularly spend well (Palace), or don't spend enough (Newcastle) or selling clubs (Southampton)..then you have the obvious relegation battle, Hudders and Fulham already f*cked, and Cardiff are on the verge.

Last season's relegation battle was the most exciting I've ever witnessed. (although it was a shame we went down) but the fact that 3 "established" sides went down in the same year was remarkable. This year the 3 teams to go down are so predictable and there isn't any sort of battle, 2 already accepted relegation, and our neighbours soon will follow lead.

As for the quality, I disagree, decent quality, the top 10 or so are quite good, The 7th place (Europa League slot outside of the usual top 6) is wide open, any club can grab it, Watford, Everton, Leicester, Wolves, Bournemouth, West Ham are all contenders and all have quality players and play good football.

The Premier league has progressively been getting weaker and worse year by year. It was piss poor last season and we managed to fk it up.
To look at the PL table there are so many small clubs in there, they deserve to be there but club size is small. Same as us IMO. We were punching above our weight for years in the PL. but deserved to be there. So many bigger clubs in the lower leagues that could sustain themselves in the PL if they could only make it back there. Look at the likes of Villa, Sunderland, Borough, West Brom, Stoke. They have all spent years in the PL but have been victim to the big boys spending so much and being forced out of the league so to say. Its not the same teams coming up and going down each season anymore, the turnover of teams making it to the PL is growing but they are unable to muster up long term survival.
Any one from 13th (Brighton) down could easily slip into that last relegation slot. Huddersfield, Fulham, Cardiff as it stands for me is how I think it will finish.

He's hardly playing. Injured at the start, injured again now, and a little bit rubbish in between. It doesn't sound like he's got going.

For the statos, we'd conceded 52 at the same stage last season but were out of the bottom 3, having just beaten S'ton 2-1.

This. No way we should have been relegated with Huddersfield surviving, just goes to show what an absolute mess we made of it after looking as if we were going to survive comfortably 2 months before end of the season.

I think the top 6 in the PL have got better this season. The middle 7 are about the same standard. The bottom 7 are worse than last year. Only 1 team outside the top 6 has a positive goal difference which just goes to show the difference in standard between the top 6 and the rest.

Majority on this site blaming Kaplan, Jenkins, Levine, The Trust et al for our current predicament but in my opinion we fail to forget where true blame lies.
The details may be inaccurate but last season’s mercenaries had 31 points with 9 games to play.
We went down with 34 points 9 games later.
No excuse. Any kind of decent performances in last 8 games would see us still accessing Premier League finances this season and whilst simply postponing our much needed re-set and rebuild we’d still be in the elite league this season. Who knows what our future would have been .....
Current financial strategies are correct - we do need to re-set on and off the pitch and rebuild the squad and club and tough financial decisions are essential. We, as a club, are far better off without locL and young(ish) squad and good riddance’s to the mercenaries who got us in this position. Potter is the right man for the job. Our time will come again.
