We’ll still be paying a big chunk to either subsidise or get him to go, so I wouldn’t be expecting too much of a change. The summer is our only real potential recruitment period and even then dependent on getting shot of the greedy Ayew leeches. Financial prognosis still looks pretty shoogly from a distance. I still have a flickering hope (very flickering) that we can put a late run in, sneak back up for a year and drop back down for a real reset without the financial thumbscrews of Bony, Ayew, Narsingh.

I know, life doesn’t work like that.

Yes as much as I like watching Wilf we simply can't afford him.

I think the title of that article is jumping to conclusions personally. When read what Potter actually said there's very little about an imminent move. Even said there's no offers.

Even if he was a colossal waste of money.

He said we've had no offers for McBurnie, but nothing so definite regarding Bony's situation.

Do people actually think we’ll see anything reinvested from Bony going?!

Surely we know these owners by now!?!

Its the clubs fault, not the players.... the players simply signed what the club offered ... why the club did not impose relegation clauses is a fecking mystery. Basics.

There are a few to be fair Baston plus Narsingh and the 2 Ayews.

Exactly. We sold players and reinvested some of that money.

So claiming that nothing from Bony's departure will be reinvested based on our owners' track record doesn't make sense. Their track record since they've been here suggests we will spend some of it.

Simplest answer would be the players and their agents said no to relegation clauses, but we wanted them desperately enough to risk it.

If you're a superstar footballer why would you join a relegation-battling club with a good chance of seeing your wages cut if other players let you down? In Bony's case his City money would be guaranteed in full through to the end of this season, so a move could easily have cost him four million quid if a relegation clause was included.

I’d hope so. The owners could do themselves a massive favour by allowing the Trust to see the management accounts though. Why the hell wouldn’t they? Just creates suspicion that they are up to no good.

On the other hand we're in the mess we're in because the owners spent way too much on players last season. And apart from Celina our best players this season have all been "internal solutions" in Potter's terms.

A bit more common sense and a tighter grip on the chequebook last January and we get relegated without an Andre Ayew shaped hole in the budget.
