Some of the comments here are bang on. They always saw it as a win win situation, the priority was to cash in at the time, hence the panic to leave all business aside apart from selling the club, make the books look good, make a movie etc etc
All was more important than actually future planning the football side.
The yanks came in to run it secure long term lease and then flip it for a profit , hence why Morgan and the Sell outs covered their down side by keeping some shares . The option of failure was covered by parachute payments and the Sell outs could buy it back and look like heros with the club starting from scratch.
Win win for them.
