Welsh Nationalists all shook up... 20:43 - Feb 3 with 3292 viewsLohengrin

The famous (well known anyway, I suppose) ‘Cofiwch Dryweryn’ mural outside of Llanrhystud has been transformed overnight sending the ‘Gwerin’ into paroxysms of frothing rage!

When the locals went to bed it looked like this:

When they got up it looked like this:

Banksy hasn’t put his hand up and it’s no good looking at me, I was in work with umpteen witnesseses who can vouch for my whereabouts.

I think replacing “COFIWCH DRYWERYN” with “Elvis” is disgraceful, the reference to Tryweryn serves as a visible reminder of what happened all those years ago. I can’t see Elvis lasting long though, I am pretty sure there are some patriots up in Aber Uni already getting the red and white paint in.

That's pretty sad. I have been been to Graceland and obviously the grave of Elvis and the man is a legend but why "vandalise" a remembrance message of the former Treweryn community of Capel Celyn?

I’m guessing it’s you that’s been out with the spray can and painted ‘Croeso I Cwmafan’ above the Eryr Wen symbol just past where the old Pantdu garage was?

It has been regularly embellished for years with various extremist symbolism, as Eddie alluded to, and in consequence it’s probably fair to say that by now it’s got little to do with preserving the memory of a vanished village and has become more of a shrine to a particular strain of radicalism. I suspect you already know this as you referenced students at Aberystwyth.

The reason I’m laughing is because this story is so off the wall (or on it in this case.) I’ve got this image of a rhinestone jump-suited nutter standing back admiring his work while his two accomplices who sound suspiciously like Bob Parry, the old Farmers’ Union President, tell him ‘Ooh! there’s lovely!”

The net is closing on the culprits though. Powys Police have this morning released CCTV footage of three men they would like to come forward and help with their enquiries...

I haven't been home in two years so I honestly don't know what your refering to. Good to see youngsters of cwm are doing something productive though. I'd rather see something like that welcoming people to the village than that banksy nonsence.

I can remember meeting him for the first time about 36 years ago; we had a school party down the old Cinderella’s night club and we would always do a few of the pubs and clubs along the Mumbles Mile ( we were young and not capable of doing the whole mile) and we ended up in the Marine drinking Albright. Peter Singh was in there, we had never met the guy before, he was clean off and very good entertainment. Seemed a really tidy guy.

The best response would be to create 1,000 copycat signs all over Wales. (Not the Elvis version obvs).
