Equine flu 21:07 - Feb 7 with 1030 views | dickythorpe | No horse racing until at least next Wednesday. If it is extended I think Cheltenham festival may be a shambles as so many horses will withdraw as they haven't had their final prep. Plus a disaster economically for catering, hospitality and beverage industry. Bollox to the bookies they make enough of the footie accumulators. [Post edited 7 Feb 2019 21:24]

I don't know what FOTBY means, but you're correct, the machines are where the dosh is for the shops. When/if the max spin comes down to 2 quid, my mate who's high up in Ladbrokes reckons 40% will close in South Wales.

Equine flu on 15:10 - Feb 8 with 774 views | pikeypaul | The bookies are total scum, anyone that is successful is banned or made a PTL customer (permission to lay) where the till operator phones HQ and invariably your bet is declined. The U.K. should have the system Australia has where if a bookie puts up a price then they can’t refuse the customer the bet, unlike what the cowards over here do when declining your bet and as good as banning you for knowing what you are doing. They will never ban you from the FOBTS fixed odds betting terminals which tells you everything. They only want losers in the shops and that is what they get. 99% of the time you will get better odds on the exchanges and will never get banned, the mug punters still using regular betting shops deserve all they get. The sooner we see the back of these mug establishments the better, it’s only the FOBTS really keeping them going but I do not see the lowering of stakes closing shops, with £2 spin every 15 seconds that’s still £480 a hour the mugs can spunk and each shop has 4 machines. Agree, but for big punters/losers like myself, the 2 pound spin and potential win will be low enough to keep me and others off the machines. Now, 50-100 pound a spin, oh yes...thankfully I very rarely indulge these days, but it will be nice when the opportunity to do so disappears forever!

£480 is still less than what we paid Bony for every hour of every day of the year (27/7/365)! We probably could have at least won something spunking over £4m on Fixed Odds Betting Machine!

I would have thought the ability to gamble £480 per hour would be enough. You say you RARELY play them these days,in that case I hope you do not have a big win since you will then be fully hooked again, you sound like the alcoholic who says he now only has a few . Luckily,I’ve never played them, but agree with you the sooner the wager limit is reduced the better, although a total ban from the high st would be ideal. It would cut down the suicides and wrecked marriages they cause. [Post edited 9 Feb 2019 3:24]

Take your points, but the maximum amount you can win from a 2 pound spin isn't enough for people like myself to be tempted. Last played them 2 weeks ago, was about 270 up, that was the first time for about 3 months. There's no chance of me getting hooked again, been there, done that 8-10 years ago, still paying for it now! I agree, a total ban would be better, they should only be in Casinos imo.

Never understood why anybody would play those machines. If you love football use that particular knowledge to try and win a few quid.

They should on my be in casinos, however the gaming of 2005 put paid to that. With the amounts of money you have the ability to lose in short periods of time, coupled with the increased requirement for due diligence they should only be in casino's, who imho should still have compulsory membership for entrance

Just stay off those piles of sh*t.. Best move I ever made.. Wasted so much money, and for me, it wasn't the thrill of winning, I think I was just trying to recoup losses, ofc it never happened.. Feel quite sick now remembering back when I was spunking all I had in those 250 plus a week. And that went on for a long time..
