Passport confusion 13:08 - Mar 7 with 1605 viewscontroversial_jack

With Brexit happening on 29th March there has been uncertainty over the passport issue. if I can give an update from the passport office. if you have less than 6 months on your passport, you may not be able to enter the countries in the schengen area. The new blue passports will start to be phased in after October, but anyone who has a long time on their passports or who renews before October will have the burgundy passports, and will not be required to renew until these expire, and will therefore be allowed to travel as per normal

The blue passport or, as its soon to be known, the 'stand in the two hour queue over there' permit.

I should have stated that when you renew after Oct 2019 they will no longer be issuing the burgundy ones, just the new blue ones. There's no need to renew unless you have less than 6 months remaining as the burgundy ones will be perfectly acceptable until they are due to be renewed normally

Don’t worry I believe for transition we’ll still be able to pass relatively freely through customs with our burgundy passport

After that we can look forward to the questioning, queuing safe in the knowledge we’ll have a beautiful blue passport without EU on it. Yay
