Storage Heaters 11:01 - Mar 16 with 2369 viewsjack_lord

I have a flat that I rent out.

This has storage heaters and I am looking to replace them. I would like to reduce the heating costs for prospective tenant so looking for alternatives or just much better one.

Any ideas?

My gas fire was condemned and I've used one of these ever since. Bloody brilliant and good on juice.

looks great as a back up. I'm completely refitting flat so need a more permanent fixture.

Storage heaters are seen as a bit old fashioned nowadays.

The up to date solution is something like these Rointe electric radiators.

I had the same problem with 2 properties I rent out. I replaced the storage heaters with faro electric radiators. Work really well and relatively cheep to run.

Do they harness off peak electricity or are they on demand radiators?

Same question as the Farho, do they harness off peak electricity or are they on demand radiators?

I've got one of those over here in Spain. I didn't know it was a 'halogen' heater until Dicky just enlightened us, I just call it the electric heater!

It doesn't tap into any low cost electric source, it just plugs into a normal socket in my living room. I just use it in the depths of winter when it's not convenient to light up the log burner, like if we're going out later. Good bit of kit, but I couldn't tell you what it costs to run. The previous house owner left it for me.

On demand.

Once installed all the tennant or landlord has to do is tell their energy supplier that they have had electric radiators installed and that they are no longer economy 7 storage heaters.

I run mine off the spur that the old storage heaters were in.

Tennant’s love them.

Does that mean that the "timer" that operates the old storage heater sockets becomes live 24 hours?

I believe you can override the old timer.

I’m no expert on this. The electrician I use and trust put them in.
