Good on him, though he may have transferred to seven eleven now. He did OK for Cincinnati who are new to the MLS. Believe he was at Dallas before. Pitch was shocking and weather pretty poor. Interesting times for the MLS if they can break through in places lie Cincinnati and Minnesota it could become huge.

Look at what they have achieved in Atlanta. With more and more revelations about the dangers of American football and sports like basketball being a genetic lottery, soccer should thrive in the next few decades there.

I think big cities like Atlanta or areas with larger Latino populations are less surprising in terms of success. Other teams like Columbus and Portland are in cities without an NFL franchise. That's why I feel that midwest cities are very much the key here-the expansion into Cincinnati being such as example. What is good is that most teams are heading to stadia of around 20K purpose built for football, rather than college American football stadia now used (though having seen UGA's 90, 000 seater stadium in a town of 120K they are impressive facilities). The standard is decent and seems to , as you say, be getting a real foothold now.

Atlanta had a plan though; South American coach, playing South American style and creating a squad capable of playing that was... plus Kenwyne Jones.
