Assange arrested on 18:28 - Apr 11 by controversial_jack

The Swedish prosecutor was given the opportunity to come to the Ecuadorian embassy to speak with him and determine if any charges were to be brought - which is perfectly normal for high profile cases; he declined and charges have been subsequently dropped.

How can he be on bail if there are no charges to answer. Completely trumped up.

The Swedish prosecutor is female, not male. Assange wanted to dictate precisely what questions were asked...

He was on bail when he skipped bail claiing "asylum".

I know it's difficult to grasp, but when he skipped bail he committed a new offence. It's irrelevant if the original charges were dropped - he committed a criminal offence by skipping bail. The two offences are not linked.

Of course, the original Swedish charges may well be reopened. If so, we'd then have whiny bitch Assange demanding he be expedited to Sweden ( who he previously farcically claimed would extradite him to America in a better way than UK could ) to avoid UK extraditing him to USA...

Breaking news this morning was that they want the birth of their baby to be private. And it was breaking news.

Does anyone really care because I sure as hell don’t.

How do you know he wanted to ask specific questions, the media had no access to him?

What would it matter if she was male or female?

The bail would be cancelled if the charges were dropped and he would have simply been released.

I don't blame him either, knowing he's going to be sent to the US for torture.

It's going to be interesting though.

Assange clearly had zero contact with the outside world then.

Gender of prosecutor doesn't matter, just correcting it.

Yes, the bail would have been cancelled and released. The point you're missing is at the time he skipped bail, the charges were still there. The point at which he skipped bail is the point at which the offence was committed. The state of the charges is irrelevant, he committed a criminal offence by skipping bail. That's why his farcical "not guilty" plea today whilst refusing to give evidence was rejected and he's now remanded in prison to face sentencing at Crown Court. As per the law.

Ah yes, he'll be sent to the US and tortured. Yawn. Assange has always had a theatrical bent. An extradition has been requested, gets processed same as every other one. If not valid, then he's fine. Of course, if the Swedish investigation re-opens and extradition to Sweden is requested, Id imagine that would be granted under EAW. Guess there's one good thing about not yet having left EU.

Wikileaks has a valid place in the world imo but Assange has always been about Assange...

The conditions of the bail would have been altered so there would have been no case to answer and no warrant could have been issued as there's no charge to answer.

Concerning extradition to the US, that is the ultimate aim of the American authorities, ably assisted by their stooges the British govt and the judiciary.

You're wrong.

At the time he skipped bail, charges were still in place. Even if they weren't, whilst bail is still in place, bail conditions still apply. Not difficult to understand. Whilst bail conditions were in place, Assange fled justice. That is a criminal offence. It's a criminal offence totally independent of other alleged crimes.

THAT is why his not guilty plea for breaking bail was rejected and is why he's awaiting sentencing.

Ah yes, those British stooges. After all, they concocted an ingenious plan involving Sweden rather than arresting Assange end extraditing directly, right?

If the charges are dropped then there's no case to answer then the bail conditions don't apply.

They have to extradite him to Sweden first and they will extradite him to the US.Everyone knows this, it's why he didn't want to go to Sweden.

As for his plea being rejected, i'm not sure what recourse he has. There must be a way to appeal, but it's a magistrates court and they are basically police courts and he won't get a fair hearing there.

"How do you know he wanted to ask specific questions, the media had no access to him? "

He spoke to a group of journalists in June 2013

"The bail would be cancelled if the charges were dropped and he would have simply been released."

He's granted bail in December 2010. He jumps ball in June 2012 and Swedish prosecutors drop investigation into some of the sex allegations against him due to time restrictions in August 2015.

So he broke British law for over 3 years, not knowing the charges in Sweden were going to be dropped!!

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

Rape in Sweden but part of the charge has now been dropped.

Wrong, as he was not charged with a crime as he fled before that could happen.

Total rubbish. The case was frozen as there was little to no chance of it happening as he was holed up in the embassy... The rape case can be re-started up to a limit of ten years after... so 2020 apparently kis latest.

Don't be stupid.

He skipped bail. That's a criminal offence. Charges later dropped is utterly irrelevant, he committed a criminal offence.

Still, you know more than the judiciary which is why he's in prison awaiting sentencing.

Ah the old "Sweden to US" crap. Yup, concoct an elaborate ruse when US could simply have put an extradition order request into UK.

His "not guilty" plea was rejected because it was fvcking obvious, even to you, that he skipped bail. His refusal to give evidence on his own behalf didn't help either.

I'll try an analogy that you may understand. Bail is an agreement between two parties , ie, a contract- it's not something that is imposed by one side. it's been agreed between both parties. If you and I have a contract, and you alter the terms of that, the contract becomes void and cannot be inforced

The conditions have been altered by dropping the charges therefore that contract no longer exists, therefore you cannot be charged if the conditions have changed. The CPS have either been negligent or have been put up to this by higher political influences - which would be completely wrong and corrupt. The whole thing stinks of corruption and shame on the govt for being poodles to It's American masters. I'm totally ashamed to be British right now.

Bail is a contract? Mwahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

No seriously, mwahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Bail is applied by courts, with strict conditions. You don't get to bargain, have what you want. Accept bail or be in prison.

Dropping the charges is an irrelevance which you fail to understand. He skipped bail whilst the charges were still there, had no knowledge or expectation that they would be dropped. That is the criminal offence he committed which you fail to grasp. Charges being dropped is utterly irrelevant, it doesn't mean his crime of skipping bail goes.

If only he had you as his lawyer in court, eh, you could have given your view. Of course, it would mean his eventual sentence got doubled or tripled but hey...

What a corrupt world we live in, where whistle blowers are sent to jail and the horrific crimes they have exposed like people killing children, people getting tortured etc are free to walk.
