Dead.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Sad news. RIP.

One of the genuinely hard men of football from the 1970s era. Struggling with ongoing injury and fitness problems while with us but always a fully committed player.
Is there any film available showing his tackle on Ardiles. I was at the game but didn't get a clear view of it.

Tommy Smith spoke at a Swans dinner about his tackle on Ardiles when he was rolling on the floor Tommy said to him "Welcome to British football"

RIP. "The Anfield Iron"

Tommy brought the experience we needed into a young team (+ Ian Callaghan) ... in Tosh's first full season as our manager.

18 years with Liverpool but gave 100% for us, a true professional and example to modern day primadonnas.

Wore his heart on his sleeve.

It was a fantastic time for all our fans after a long period in the doldrums. I was about 10 when those two came to the club, both gave everything for the shirt despite being European champions a season or so before with Liverpool. Rest in peace Tommy, a hero to the Kop and the North bank

Great player and real hard man of the 70s with chopper Harris, Norman Hunter etc.

A few years after he retired he became Manager of Caernarvon Town in the Welsh League and he left after just a couple of months.

When interviewed on Radio Wales he cited players ringing up on Friday night/Saturday morning saying they couldn't play because they had a sore throat and said that in his day, words to the effect that players would play with a broken leg!

Attitudes were different obviously back in those days and I know from speaking to some past players from that time that Tommy viewed the likes of Ardiles and Villa as foreigners coming to take British players jobs. He made it plain that Ardiles wasn’t welcome and that he was going to go out of his way to make sure the red carpet wasn’t rolled out for them.

Ardiles was the first to get Tommy’s special welcome 😀

RIP

Oh,..Dave, what's occuring?

In my fantasy all time game Tommy is marking Raheem Sterling,

Until sterling is carried off and replaced by Victor Moses.

As above, a legend in football and he played for our club and we all remember his tackle. In some ways, I wish we had won the game that night so we could say Tommy won it for us but it would have spoiled the song.

The hard man reputation will get mentioned all the time, but Tommy could play.

His role in Keegans 2nd in the 74 cup final was as good as Angel Rangel at his best.

Only 74, he should have been with us longer.

I'm struggling to think who his modern equivalent would be, maybe Troy Deaney.
