Well there’s a few differences in Chico’s case. Firstly he’s on a free and not a combined total of twenty/thirty odd million in a transfer fee, secondly he’s not going to command big wages and thirdly at least we know he loved it here, unlike the other two. Will it come off, no chance but he’s the type of player who could own the championship. | |

I didn’t rate him as highly as most when he was here. Those signature last gasp lunging tackles looked great but were often a result of him not reading the play well or being slightly out of position. I get that he can inspire people around him, but at the same time, I’m not sure that kind of volatile temperament is ideal for a player who would be a big character in a young team. Can’t see Potter wanting him or our owners paying him what he’d want. | | | |

The benefits he brought in his ability to start moves off quickly from the back far, far outweighed the (largely overstated) errors. Possibly the best ball playing central defender I've seen in my time watching the club.

Bony was an expensive gamble that should only have ever been a loan, same with Ayew who never seemed to quite fit us first time around.
Bad calls from the owners there.
As for Chico, if we lost VDH and needed a ball playing centre half then why not? He had a reputation of being an extremely fit player who looked after himself.

Rodon will be a ball playing centre back. He’s already decent at bringing it out of defence.
Not having a pop at Chico here, because he was very composed in possession and did have a great passing range, but it’s a lot easier to look good in that role with Leon Britton and/or Joe Allen in front of you. | | | |
