Because it's important to have players with local knowledge. Who don't have to be told everything.
If two players are otherwise equal, then go for the local lad.
Having said that, I don't know if he's better than Nordfeldt or Muller. And I've never felt Mulder was obviously better than Nordfelt, he also made plenty of mistakes. |  |

I was born in Germany myself (in a British military hospital) and went to English schools when my dad was transferred back - still have good local knowledge.
But this is irrelevant / a diversion / a red herring. The original question is: is he an improvement on what we already have? [Post edited 11 May 2019 21:16]

An upgrade on Nordvelt, how much of an upgrade I'm not sure. But are we really going to be in the market this summer for a big upgrade on our keepers and pay a decent wedge for one? Unlikely.
So he's worth the punt seeing as he's free, just got promoted with Barnsley so has form. |  |

From what I've seen Bender seems to be following the same coaching regime - stay on your line and do't commit unless there is little chance of being bumped. |  |

Neither is good enough the Barnsley keeper was rated 2nd best in league 1 behind Lowe of Portsmouth.

TBH I don't recall any goalkeeper being the full package.
Some who did well on crosse were all at sea when the ball was coming at them low, others fluffed catches.
Some may be better but as we spent the first half of the season not really testing them it's hard to tell.
