it is awful for Dan and shows how life is a lottery. My mother in law is 70 and her dad is still going but my wife lost her dad when she was 9, just like me. Losing family members you are close to is awful so enjoy them while they are here as, too soon, they will be gone. |  |

I feel the pain - albeit not so young as you. I am sorry for your loss at such a young age. I lost both parents and just about every member of my family (apart from one sister) by the time I was 40ish. It does hurt, especially for the kids etc. - you see it in the school yard, grandparents welcoming the kids out etc.. Yes, I was an older parent!
However - and this is a message for others that have gone through this and also for Dan (hopefully if you're reading) - your parents live on in your mind. Sometimes unconsciously but often consciously whenever you assess a situation, person etc. your assessments will have been forged from the influence of your parents. So, they never in fact "leave" you. Take comfort in that - I do. [Post edited 25 May 2019 7:33]
