It's all about size now. You have to throw back little ones. The Dutch have the monopoly. I'm sure that Selwyn's buys them in now to make his products.

Watched 1900 and whilst I've never collected a cockle, I have dug for the unbelievably ugly ragworm to gather as fishing bait. Backbreaking work. Why hasn't somebody come up with a girt big tractor-like amphibious contraption to hoover them up on an industrial basis?Probably for the best though as they are scarce enough as it is, delicious as they are. |  |

I think it's 3. Prices used to be over £100 a bag years ago so it was lucrative.

Not allowed. It's very strictly policed by the fisheries and much of the stock has to be left for the birds to eat. Ridiculous really, as hundreds of tonnes die every year which could have been harvested. | |
