Cricket world cup 10:58 - May 26 with 35450 viewssainthelens

For the cricket followers on here, who's your fancy?
I've had good wedge on India. England will find a way to fck it up, and as long as the Indians arnt too knackered after the IPL I think they'll be to strong.

The advantage England have is that they’ve basically been playing knockout cricket for the last two games. And they’ve had their dip in form and got past it. Australia haven’t really been stretched apart from the loss to India and India’s only loss has been to England. Anything can happen in a one off game of course but I’m confident England are making the final. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see NZ shock India in the semis either if that’s how it pans out. NZ are due a performance and India are solid but nothing special.

You may indeed. The danger of expressing an opinion is that sometimes it makes you look like an idiot when it proves to be misguided. That’s fine. Just a bit of fun. India are a good ODI team no doubt, I’m not dismissing them.

No splinters here my friend. I said at the start of this thread that this is England’s tournament to lose and they’re the best 50 over side in the world. Still is and still are.

Aye, when their hitting comes off. Lose Roy and Bairstow early and it's a different kettle of bananas. They'll have to beat both Oz and India to win it in sudden death which will prove definitely they are the best if they do it. As I said before, I think they will.

Australia - India. Starc will be too much for the bish bash bosh mob.

If Starc is hungry we will struggle. Bairstow will surely be one of the all time greats if he gets another ton.

I think NZ will turn over India. I like the ethos of the Kiwis.

Very exciting and too close to call.

The final will be shown on free TV if England get to it. Probably Channel 4. There’s no doubt the tournament has had a lower profile than it should have through being on Sky only.

Problem is one of the "terrestrial" networks finding time to block book hours out for the tournament. Sky have dedicated sports channels after all.

It’s not really a problem these days with red button technology and a raft of channels. The only reason cricket is on Sky is because they coughed up the most money. It’s been to the detriment of the game as well.

T20 has been the biggest detriment to the game. Test matches are still the best format.

T20 has catapulted the game Bluey.....whether you are a Test match purist or not, you surely can't deny the game's rise since T20???????

It's cricket for the ADHD generation. Playstation game, where lighter bats and strength count. Whilst I'd agree there's technique to some of the modern shots, it's been heavily biased in favour of batsman as big hits are what casual fans want to watch.

That then permeated to the 50 over game.

Test matches are still the purest, best format of the game. Younger generation? "This is boring, where are all the sixes?"

You’re right, Mr Thorpe. I’m not the biggest fan of the shortest format as you know but there’s no denying its worldwide popularity and th positive impact it’s had on the game as a whole. It’s also helped improve 50 over cricket which had long become stale and predictable.
