Here is his record:
In 2002, he become Chief Executive of Chelsea, he led the £180 million sale to Roman Abramovich in 2003.
October 2003 he was appointed Chief Executive of Leeds United, overseeing the takeover by a local consortium.
June 2004 he become Chief Executive of Everton, with the task of overhauling the Merseyside club's finances. He resigned after a disagreement over strategy with the board and major shareholders.
In June 2007 he was appointed the Chief Executive of Derby County, only 4 months later he was released believed to have been due to disagreements with the manager Billy Davies.
He was appointed Chief exec at Sheffield United in Jan 2010, they were relegated to League One 2011. he left soon after.
Late 2011, he undertook the role of Administrator at financially troubled Portsmouth, he led the club to a sale to the Pompey Supporters' Trust.
Birch had another role as Administrator of Heart of Midlothian in 2013, he lead the sale of the club, to a takeover from Bidco (1874) Limited on 12 May 2014.
Late 2015 he undertook an advisory role at Bolton Wanderers which finished in March 2016 with the sale of the club.
In March 2017 he joined Portsmouth and led negotiations with Mike Eisner and his investment vehicle Tornante regarding the takeover of the club.

Whilst I support the idea of the trust, in my opinion it is the main barrier to investment.
The owners can't just throw millions at the club as that would breach financial fair play rules. The only way to put money in is through investment which would mean the issuing of new shares. Doing this would dilute the trust's holding.
Similarly, anyone looking to buy the club would be in the same situation.
Given where we are, I would rather see the trust shares sold at a fair valuation, then the owners can then either invest or sell it on. This limbo state is the worst of all worlds | | | |

When Birch was appointed, there was a statement saying he wasn't coming here to take up his normal role. It was made clear he was taking up a 'normal' DoF role.
Of course, that could well change. At what point will it become clear to the Americans that we're only a loss-making club now, and they decide to bail? Or maybe we'll buck the odds and be one of the few (only?) clubs to get promoted from this league without relying on owner finance covering debt. Unlikely, but who knows. |  | | |

Exactly, they are an investment consortium, the swans has been a bad investment so far, and it's also a risky one because of the relegation systems. It looks like they want out to me and it makes sense from their point of view.
On the other hand, they may actually be trying to clear our financial problems and aim to get back in the premier by building a talented young squad. | |

We could must only one seriously interested group when we were finishing 8th in the Premier League.
Perhaps we could be like Cardiff with their owner who is bankrolling the club with loans or likewise Fulham and their $Billionaire owner. And be in the Championship AND owning 10s of £millions.
Unless you know of the Swansea equivalent of Dean Hoyle or can muster up a backstory for the club to rival Leicester or Everton we are not going to be sold to some sugar daddy owner or as a peacock project. | |
