But both have the same or similar stance on abortion. Only one faces outrage and condemnation from the lefty types in our country.

Tusk's stance on abortion has no affect on abortion laws in this country, so why would he face outrage on it? Vastly different situation to Trump who is massively affecting abortion laws in the US.

I don't pretend to be an expert on the EU, but I think I'm safe in saying that the President of the European Council's influence on such matters in the UK is limited in comparison to the President of the United States on matters in his own country.

There are a lot of sticks to beat the EU with. Why do Brexiteers tie themselves in knots trying to find new ones that make no sense?

You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help.

Yes, why do you as a socialist sort of chap who champions state ownership, redistribution of wealth and a strong welfare state want to remain under the umbrella of an organisation that is run exclusively by people with a similar policy build as mrs thatcher?

So the EU is simultaneously communist AND Thatcherite on the same thread. Schrodinger’s Brexit.

Not going well for the Eurozone at the moment more QE on its way

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-06-18/euro-area-money-markets-price

,"Yields across the euro zone have plunged in recent weeks amid concerns about a weakening economic outlook and conviction a fresh global easing cycle is about to begin. European bond investors are already preparing for another round of quantitative easing, betting on a drop in longer-maturity yields relative to near-term rates and focusing on the returns offered by bonds like Spain’s."

"The yield on 10-year German bunds slipped six basis points to -0.308%, a new record low. Yields on benchmark Italian notes fell as much as 16 basis points to touch 2.14%, the lowest since May 2018, while Austrian 10-year yields declined below zero.,

I admit it’s probably time to abort this thread.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

....and the pound is doing great yeah?

THE POUND slumped against the euro for the third day in a row yesterday sending GBP plummeting to a new six-month low against the euro. The exchange rate’s tumble continues to be impacted by UK political uncertainty.

The proposition of the OP is to bring the government down. Essentially to stop us leaving the EU.

So be sure what you wish for.

The EU's key marque project is the Euro. The only way to save the Euro is full political, economic and fiscal integration.

If you are campaigning for Remain you are campaigning for this integration - it is unstoppable.

I was directly responding to the guy who said the EU was communist, pointing out correctly that all of the commission, the president of the European council and a large proportion of the European Parliament are at least neoliberal or nationalist right and some individuals in high places have hardline approaches on certain issues such as abortion that would be considered pretty hard right even in our own beloved Tory party.

Im not trying to introduce any dynamics, I was simply furthering the conversation.

I take your point , what I meant on my post was that the organisation of the eu was run on the communist model . I.E a central politburo controlling the satellite states not the fact that the EU was inherently communist.

The veto.

Not the film star, we have the ability to veto this.

More along US lines as it happens.

Some things are decided at a national level (State level in the US) and other things are decided as a whole (federal level).

Bunch of commies the Americans though, obviously.

Apart from our permanent opt out of the Euro you mean.

A right which is enshrined in EU law.

You think if Brexit was reversed and we become even more embedded - as we pass even more directives that we would use the veto? You would be saying we would have to accept it to protect the supply chains.

It is insidious, creeping happens over a number of years.

Locked in politically to a union that is in economic decline.

This is the opportunity to reset. Let's have a trading relationship with the EU but not political union.

I see Portugal has objected to the Welsh Assembly's plan to legislate a minimum price on alcohol.
Their grounds that is it unfair to Portuguese wine producers.

This is the despite the fact that the UK supreme Court ruled Scotland was legally entitled to set a minimum price a couple years ago when several EU countries objected.
