Garry Monk to Newcastle? on 21:11 - Jun 23 by Darran | As much as Swans fans would like it to be different his League placings with the club’s he’s been at since he was sacked by us have been decent and like the stories in the press this week his sacking at Brum wasn’t really for football reasons. |
I don’t think you can say that taking Boro to 10th was decent and this was after spending £55m in one transfer window. His problem there was that he took over from Karanka who’s football style was dreadful.

Garry Monk to Newcastle? on 20:55 - Jun 23 by Dr_Winston | He's had four managerial jobs and been sacked from three of them. |
And if he was a plumber, shop assistant, civil servant or painter and decorator that would be a relevant and a concern but as its football that's irrelevant Jose Mourinho has been sacked four times. Toshack more than that. Monk has done well at each of his Clubs. At Leeds for example he's amongst their top six managers in terms of results since the Don Revie days. And they were a basket case when he went there as were Birmingham.

Is record is nothing like Swans fans would want you to believe and Boro were ninth when they sacked him and that was in December.

Garry Monk to Newcastle? on 21:00 - Jun 23 by Neath_Jack | Wouldn't it be fair to say that many managers, including the successful ones, have sackings on their CV's? |
Of course it would, but in the case of Garry Monk it doesn't fit the narrative.

Garry Monk to Newcastle? on 11:25 - Jun 24 with 2175 views | Jacket | I think there's a tendancy to be too critical of his record as a manager. He did well at Leeds, didn't doo awfully bad at Boro and did well at Birmingham. Whatever you think of his playing style, on a purely results basis did an OK job here. He was credited (rightly or wrongly) with keeping us up and then got us to our best finishing position, you can see why people on the outside reckon he was harshly dealt with. It's only Swans supporters that realize he was also, with a little help from Jenkins, the architect of our demise. All I would say, his record in signing players is quite horrendous, can you imagine allowing him to spend the Qatari billions?

His time here has been repeated elsewhere. He initially does ok, but then falls off and ultimately is a bit of a disappointment and does little to plan for the future, just grind out short term results (which is fine). He's boringly ok, no more no less. B'ham fans weren't all enamoured by a long way; that they all lived him is a bit of a myth similar to his time here. And their owner's comments about how GM was a bit billy big bollocks and wouldn't work under their agent structure would ring true to us. At the moment he's a Poundland Pulis. Newcastle would be stupid to even consider him in a long list. He's not PL standard.

"His time here has been repeated elsewhere. He initially does ok, but then falls off and ultimately is a bit of a disappointment and does little to plan for the future, just grind out short term results (which is fine)" As do 99% of other football managers.

Complete Bollox You can say the same about top managers like Jose Mourinho, Brian Clough, John Toshack, Rafa Benetiz.

I'd love to agree with that, and he's 100% right about him having a lot to learn and being in a completely different level to Benitez, but he can't have been monitoring him very closely with regards to him walking away after a season, because that only applies to his time in Leeds. Swansea, sacked for losing every game for the best part of three months. Boro, sacked for being mediocre after spending a load of money on a load of dross. Birmingham, sacked for going about the place like Barry Big Balls, that and eroding the footballing principles of a club who bored everyone into submission during their time in the Premier League. A lot do, for sure. The knack is finding the ones that don't fade off as regularly or leave you in the shit with their rubbish signings (like Rafa, for example). Pundits slagging off Monk is one thing, but the real damning indictment of Garry's impact on a club is the statement from Birmingham's owner. He's a legend for his playing time here, but he's not starting his managerial career too well imo.
