Why do they keep calling her British?

Arf!

She became British for the money LTA were offering. The Tennis Zola Budd.

In fairness Budd’s grandparents were emigre Scots. Konta’s about as ‘British’ as Bela Kun was.

It’s a farcical situation.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Did he move to Eastbourne when he was 14? How interesting. I didn’t know that. I thought he went to the USSR.

She moved to the UK when she was 14.

I can’t imagine they were offering millions.

When they moved to Britain, she was being coached in Barcelona.

She decided to become British in 2012. Can you guess the year she received LTA funding? Why yes, 2012. No doubt a co-incidence, eh? As soon as funding was cut in 2015, went back to Spain for training.

To sum up, family lived in Britain for 7 years - no LTA funding - before deciding to become British when LTA funding then turned up. Sure, not millions but the sole reason for becoming British was the LTA funding.

Andy Murray spent most of his formative years training in Spain. Didn’t have to become Spanish to do so.

She started to play for Britain when she received British citizenship. Immediately. Unsurprisingly when she started to play for Britain, she received funding from Britain. She’d lived here for a few years before that. Doubtless just to p*ss you off.

Indeed but you've spectacularly missed the point.

Konta lived in Britain for 7 years during which she had no interest in becoming British. LTA injected funds into womens tennis, lo and behold Konta suddenly feels British enough to get that British passport, making her eligible to get funding.

The Murray situation has naff all to do with it tbh. Can't recall him cynically getting a British passport purely for the money.

And again, became British solely for the funding. Nothing more, nothing less. It's the pretence otherwise that's the irritating bit. That and her being Australian...

Boris, who is, after all most likely to be next PM, had two until about 2 years ago when he relinquished one for tax purposes.

Nowhere near as exciting as Australia - South Africa though.
