Poor Joe Denly is not really meant to be in a Test team is he? Great county player but amazed he was selected over some of the youngsters.

Even if he played ok, how many years has he got left?

If a players test days are over, go for a young player, back them.

I think Jason Roy May be playing his last Test for a while. A lot to do in the second innings if he is to be picked again.

Didn’t see much of yesterday’s play for obvious reasons but it sounds like one for the ages. Steve Smith is basically the only difference between the teams.

That was one hell of a crack to Smith's neck, and you could see the Australians were really worried at the time as it was very simililar to the incident which killed Phil Hughes at the SCG in 2014.

It's going to be an interesting series now with Archer bowling, but I think England are lucky in that this is only a 3 day Test match, because I don't believe Archer is ready to bowl in back to back matches. He's played only one red ball game in 11 months, and that was a 2nd X1 match!! Sir Geoffrey Boycott was scathing of Root's handling of Archer's workload yesterday even in such a shortened game, saying he would never forgive him if he overworks Archer and he breaks down.

If this series turns into a "Bumper War", then I think Australia are far better equipped in the bowling dept to dish it out.

Smith failed his concussion tests this morning and is replaced by Marnus Labuschagne, who will become Test cricket's first concussion substitute and can bat in Australia's second innings if needed.
