I resolved it by trying repeatedly until it worked, about 2mins into the game. I use Chrome too, so maybe you clearing the cache was just coincidence. Clearly there was something wrong with their login server, because it was complaining about incorrect credentials. |
I'm no computer expert so you may well be right. I don't think it helps that in the minutes leading up to kick off there are many users trying to log in at the same time. I'll try getting logged in much earlier next time.
I also tried using IE browser (or whatever it's now called, I don't routinely use it) and failed to log in using that too until I cleared the cache there. So perhaps there is something in it? |  |

I wouldn't be surprised it has something to do with the number of people trying to log in just before kick off. PolskiJack (?) reckoned he logged in successfully at 14:35, so that's my plan in future. Of course, if everyone tries logging in earlier we'll be in the same boat.

That's pretty much what happened. Anyone who logged in early was fine, afterwards the system crashed.
Been assured it won't happen again on Saturday but we'll see. |  |

its simple server overload, so everyone logging in at once is all sending authentication packets to the server, and its bottle necking trying to grab things and serve files back out. so it gets to the place where its memory can't back log any more requests so it can't accept new incoming data until it deals with what it has. thats why you can't log in.
Emptying your cache is going to actually make the server work harder because its sending you all new files. what is probably happening if you get it to work with an empty cache is you've been pulling an old temp page, that is giving you an access denied.
btw you don't need to empty your cache completely for this Shift + F5 on windows or command + shift + r on mac should skip the caching on most browsers. | |

Exactly. The one thing I'd add is that the error message is wrong and misleading. Clearly, some part of the software is interpreting the failure to log in (due to server overload) as a failure of log in credentials. And I daresay it's resulting in a lot of people trying to change their password, which is making the situation even worse. Poor. | | | |
