I really feel for Bury fans , very sad for them. We know how important a football club can be to certain individuals, and they will soon be forgotten by the media. I don’t think the complete answer is only for the rich to bail out the poor , this would probably just encourage unscrupulous owners to steal more from their clubs. What is required is much stricter regulation of the clubs finances by the football authorities to prevent the asset stripping which has led to the demise of clubs like bury and ourselves. It probably won’t happen though as would probably require legislation which politicians see as a very low priority. | | | |

There should be far far more stringent vetting of people who take control of smaller clubs, the efl are too lax, i agree the bigger clubs should donate a % to a fund can be used in extreme instances like bury and bolton but the big clubs dont give a flying fvck about the liitle clubs, all they are bothered about is picking up glory hunters from all around the country and the world to buy their merchandise.

The clubs and EFL can’t agree details on how to beef up the fit and proper owner test. At present it seems to be no more than a check to see if the new owner has any criminal convictions.
What happens if they have or fail any new test and a deal for the club has been agreed?
Needs to be far greater regulation of owners to prevent asset stripping or loading debt onto a club.

No team realistically needs £110m to run a club annually rather than £100, and if teams had less money then the wages they would pay to players would also have to come down. Not every penny that the premier league earns goes to the players directly anyway, they had to come to an agreement if I remember to invest some money into grass roots football infrastructure, etc.
But as for owners taking money out of the club, that is why my suggestion was that the £200m (in this example) wasn't given out to clubs, it was kept by the EFL and distributed to clubs at the end of the season only to cover any losses reported up to a limit (say for example 500k in the red).
If a club exceeds that limit, automatic relegation no matter if they finished 24th or 1st at the end of the season. | | | |

And this is the problem when the lunatics have a say in the running of the asylum. F1 is very similar in that the governing body are trying to change the rules to improve the sport but the teams have to agree them and they won't as it would stop their dominance.
It's known the German model of ownership and testing is very robust, Hopefully the EFL can look at that for inspiration. | |

I would imagine if the club is shut down the players are free agents and can therefor sign for any club that wants them. |  |
