As somebody who has made a good career out of being a professional sportsman at International level, he has let himself down here. He should know much better than average joe how to look after his body and mitigate the risks involved with his lifestyle and preferences.
To hold him up now as some sort of posterboy is a bit crass imo. He has let himself down and should not be some sort of role model. Absolute sympathy for his position and i hope he goes on to be 100% fine, but lets not get it twisted, he royally fcked up here and only has himself to blame. |  |

I think that's exactly what many of us have suspected. This isn't a genuine moment but a manufactured publicity stunt.
Lets be honest, the blackmail thing, he is who he is. If it was myself who had a HIV diagnosis nobody outside of my friends and family would be interested or in any way bothered. If a journo discoverd the story he/she/they was/were obviously going to do some digging. Then there's the "I wasn't going to tell anybody" claim, no he wasn't, until the tv documentary and until some journo doing their job stole his thunder.

According to the internet, there's roughly 9 complex steps involved in creating a documentary. There's no way in hell that one could be created in 4 days. So yes, he's known about his diagnosis for quite a while, has gone to the BBC about it and suggested the idea, and has timed telling the public a few days before he runs a marathon, about a week before the rugby world cup, and less than a week before his documentary is broadcast. And he made the "I can never have that moment back" comment, yet the documentary is going to air very soon and he hadn't told his parents anyway. [Post edited 18 Sep 2019 14:42]
